Help Needed in Vanuata
No doubt you have read in the newspapers and heard over TV over the devastating hurricane that hit Vanuatu. Doug Willis, White Fields associate evangelist in Australia for many years, writes and appeals for help in Vanuatu. Doug has done some preaching in Vanuatu and knows these people personally. If the Lord leads you to help please send your donation To White Fields and mark it VANUATU and we will promptly forward your gift to Doug who will get it to these Christian friends. Reggie Today we have received an appeal for help from Vanuatu. The Mathisons are contacts of ours. They (she) lives in our ministry area. He writes: “There is a food shortage here right now. The folks here are subsistence farmers, they live off what they grow, and some sell their excess in the market. The fresh food market in Port Vila has been empty since Saturday morning … Not one soul is there to sell anything, because there is nothing to sell. All the market gardens and small crops are completely devastated. People are right now digging up their root crops before they rot. When that is eaten, there is nothing left.
Food Aid is now being distributed to the affected islands, where some 150,000 people live. This will need to continue for at least 3-4 months presuming they get new gardens planted in the next couple of weeks. The aid is being distributed by ship and helicopter to the islands. And by truck to villages in Efate (where Port Vila is).
Getting seeds together and sent here will be a massive help, so that people can re-establish their gardens. Commercially packaged seeds only.
Please visit FaceBook group “Vanuatu Seeds to Feed” and join. This page will give instructions including what type of seeds are good. Vanuatu Seeds to Feed is the collection point, in Toowoomba.
I am a resident here. Head of Operations for the National Bank of Vanuatu. I will organize shipping of the seed packs from Toowoomba to Port Vila via DHL. And I will organize distribution throughout the affected areas via Air Vanuatu. Anything needed at this end, we can do.
This intervention can make a massive difference.
Can I please urge you to get behind this? We can save a lot of hardship. Reggie This will not only be for humanitarian need but will help us further establishing good relationship with this family. We will ask him if he can arrange for the seeds we send to be given in the name of (churches) of Christ. If you can make an appeal for funds for this project we can purchase the seeds and get them to Toowoomba and also make an appeal of our own to add to it. This may also help us establish contact with people on the Island who can help promote our CEF College. Let me know what you think. I believe it is a very worthwhile project. In Christ, Doug
