Holy, as God is Holy

Dear Family and Friends,

“You must be holy,
because I, the LORD your God, am holy.”
Leviticus 19:2

Thank you so much for praying for our team this last month, as I traveled to Papua New Guinea, met with Aruamu Translation Team members to plan together, and then traveled back to the US with 2 Papua New Guinean Aruamu translators, Francis Dagonov and Simon Aroro.  We have started working together on the Exegetical check of the Aruamu draft of Leviticus.

I have never actually met anyone who has told me that his/her favorite book of the Bible is Leviticus!  This book is a book of worship for the Jewish people.  Holiness is a dominate theme.  The expectation of Yahweh God, articulated in the well-known verse, “You must be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy,” (Leviticus 19:2) is threaded through the entire book, as Jewish laws regarding many types of Jewish sacrifices, feast days, priests’ clothing, and worship customs are elaborated upon in great detail.  When you come to the end of this book, you have the strong awareness that worship matters to God.  Holiness matters to God.

Please pray for our team, as we work our way through this complicated book.  There is a LOT of nitty gritty detail in this book.  Consistency and terminology choices are very important in this type of text. May God give us his insight and grace while we work together on this! Our biggest prayer is that he will give us glimpses of his holiness, portrayed in this book, as well as through all of Scripture.

Love in Christ,
Marsha Relyea Miles
(For Nathan, and for our entire Aruamu Translation Team)

Prayer Prompts:

Praise God that Francis Dagonov, Simon Aroro and Marsha Miles have arrived safely back in Dallas.  Pray for our exegetical checking of the book of Leviticus this month.  We are currently in chapter 8.

Pray for good connections for Francis and his wife Miriam who is in Tiap village in PNG, and for Simon and his wife Lucy who is in Tongbur village in PNG.  The men will trying to call their wives 2 times a week, using Skype from Dallas and calling to their wives cell phones in PNG.  Our plan is to try every Tuesday and Friday afternoon Dallas time, which is Wednesday and Saturday morning PNG time.

Pray for the completion of the cutting of all the timber for the first permanent classroom for Faith Bible College, in Tiap village, Papua New Guinea.  The Aruamus are using a portable sawmill to do this. Here is a link to a couple of videos, if you would like to see that work in action, out in the jungle:

Pray for Nathan and his Bible Translation software development co-workers, in United Bible Societies and in SIL.  They are working on an addition to Paratext software that will enable translators to more easily research meanings and nuances of Biblical Terms, as they work their way through the text.  Also, Nathan is working on developing software for Bible Translators who are working on Sign Language Projects.
