Dear Reggie,

Just like that and summer is almost over. It always seems like it goes by so fast, but we’ve packed in quite a bit.

Matt has spent his summer taking an online class on Cross-Cultural Leadership through Johnson University. When I’m headed to bed, he is still at his desk reading books and articles, responding to classmate forum entries, and watching the videos for that week. He’s also been tackling his regular duties as the team leader and finance person for Team Vanuatu. Now he’s also planning for our two class reunion trips to Missouri and Illinois and getting ready for his trip back to Vanuatu in just 2 short months. I’m blessed that he still found time to take me to Shakespeare in the Park for our 22nd wedding anniversary.

My work in Global Partnerships has increased as we now have 12 people in Ukraine who are either already working or in training! We also have the first representative in Brazil! We are working hard to help our national partner organizations take good care of the people God is sending them. My work in the Development department never stops. There is always something to do. We are almost ready to send a letter to donors who gave to start our Deaf group, I sent 50 Verse By Verse folders out (see photo below), and I’m now assigning verses to a new people group in Papua New Guinea that I met 5 years ago! How cool is that?!

Our family is also enjoying hosting interns and new recruits for dinner. It gives us a chance to get to know them and hopefully encourage them…and gives Matt an excuse to ma56bddea2-89be-42d7-b8ce-d47ff15c643b.jpgke a brisket!
Please join us in prayer this month for these requests:

~ The kids start school August 13th and Aidan turns 16 on August 14th! Ethan will be a senior this year. I may cry all.year.long.

~ Our annual strategic planning meetings are right around the corner. Development’s planning retreat is August 18-21, Global Partnerships is the 21st (yes I’m double booked), and the organization-wide meeting is the 22-23rd. So six straight days of planning and dreaming. It’s always exhausting and inspiring!

Thank you for your prayers and support of our family and ministry!

Angie (for Matt and the kids, too)

p.s. Remember how I said that everything we own had decided to break? Well, I’m happy to report that a teammate helped Matt get the weed eater running. Rather than pay a $50 service call plus labor and parts, we found a great washing machine on craigslist for $75. The internet has been working well since it came back on and $690 later, the van is running well – just in time for Matt to take 5 interns to the airport this past weekend. Now if we could just get the car window to roll up… 🙂 Thank you for your prayers!

This time we sent to 50 people who gave to fund the book of Leviticus in the Baga language. Fun fact – 7 years ago I got to meet the Baga people in West Africa! I love my job AND these cute volunteers!!

We just got back from our 1st Annual Framily (Friends+Family) Vacation! We really wanted to make some great memories before the kids go back to school & some time to relax and have fun without screens. We let each of the kids invite a friend along and we spent 3 1/2 days at a Christian retreat center all by ourselves playing games, cooking out, swimming, hiking, and a lot more. Aidan’s friend said it was the most fun he’s ever had!

Travel News Update

We have several praises about Matt’s trip already!

~ Our teammates the Ohrenbergs have graciously offered to keep Matt for the 3 weeks he will be in Santo. This is such a blessing for many reasons, not the least of which is that it will save us several hundred dollars. We are so thankful for their willingness to open their home to him.

~ There was a price drop so we were able to get Matt’s roundtrip ticket for October 8 – November 1 from Dallas to Brisbane for $200+ cheaper than we expected. We will be buying Matt’s Brisbane to Santo ticket this week.

~ Since we told you all about this unexpected trip in our last newsletter, we have received $1,020 toward those expenses. THANK YOU to those who gave! Because of the praises above, we believe Matt’s travel expenses will only be around $2,000 total so we’re over halfway there!

If you would like to give a special gift to make Matt’s trip possible, you can give in your normal way and just let us know the extra is for his trip. Even if you aren’t a regular supporter, you can go to our Giving Page and give by check or online. Thank you!
As a reminder, during his visit, Matt hopes to:
~ Assist with the last two days of VISTA
~ Take part in the first ever VISTA graduation!
~ Meet with our team about 6 year goals (SO much easier in person)
~ Visit our village family on Malo & preach there one Sunday
~ Visit and maybe preach at Vuna Mele, our home church on Santo
~ Take part in the Vanuatu Bible Translation Meeting hosted by the Vanuatu Council of Churches
~ Spend two days in Australia on the way home to meet with potential partners for the work in Vanuatu.

The one big downside of this trip is that Matt will be missing half of Lauren’s volleyball games this season. So please pray that when the time comes, she won’t be too disappointed. I’ll just cheer extra loudly! 😉

If you would, please be praying for:

* God to direct Matt’s planning for his trip and give him the time to prepare for it.

* That God would make the way for Matt to make all of his connections, especially on the way to Vanuatu. The volcano on Ambae is unstable and has cancelled many flights. If he misses his flight from Brisbane to Santo, he will miss the VISTA graduation.

* Speaking of Manaro, the volcano on Ambae has led the Vanuatu government to impose a compulsory evacuation – again – of everyone living on Ambae (approximately 11,000 people). To see a haunting picture of what an ash-covered village looks like, click here. To read how the people of Ambae feel being displaced from their homeland, click here. Please pray with us for all the people of Ambae, including the VISTA translators who call Ambae home.

We thank God for each of you. Please share your praises and prayer requests with us, too!
