Dear Reggie,

From the desk of Matt

So three things happened today.

I had a phone conversation with Dan Thompson, one of our teammates in Vanuatu. We were able to talk about a number of items and had a really stable connection. Then on Facebook someone from my class in high school brought up that our 25th reunion will be later this year. Lastly, Angie and Ethan went shopping today to purchase the last clothing item that he will need for prom. My kid is going to prom.

From these happenings, I wonder…when did I get this old? How is it possible that I live in a world this small?

So much is happening in this small world. We can see real time updates about the situation with the volcano on Ambae. When one of our teammates in Vanuatu has a prayer request, an email will reach one of our mobile devices in minutes. (We do still have to deal with the 16 hour time difference.) The world may be shrinking and technology continues to advance, but time is still moving right along. We are still working on fulfilling Christ’s commission to disciple the world. Thank you to all of you for the part that you are playing in partnering with us in this work. Thank you for your prayers.

I’ve been busy the last few weeks with writing an article for PBT’s magazine, preparing to speak in PBT Chapel, and preparing to teach our Sunday School class for a few weeks in May. The three subjects are kind of all jumbled in my head. I will think of a great idea for the Sunday School lesson while working on the PowerPoint for the chapel message. My chapel message is from 2 Corinthians 4. I challenge you to read that. Then make a list of “I thank God for ____” things. It will be a good exercise.

From wherever Angie is writing 🙂

Being part of the Global Partnerships team at PBT gives me a window into what God is doing in places I’ve never been – like Ukraine. From April 16th to the 20th, our partners Pioneer Bible Translators Ukraine will be hosting the PBU Mother Tongue Conference. Several of my teammates will be there speaking and connecting with people who are considering becoming missionaries with PBU. I hope to share some stories and photos next month! I also just found out that our president Greg Pruett’s book Extreme Prayer was just finished being translated into Polish by my co-worker Jan (pronounced like “yawn”)! They are hoping to have copies to share at the conference.

As Matt mentioned, we are still putting the finishing touches on our article for The Latest Word magazine. It should come out sometime in November so you still have to wait a while to see it. 🙂

These 4964015d-ca9b-404c-900f-5f7583a3eef0.jpgsweet ladies to the right are some of my amazing volunteers! They come in for 3-4 hours one morning and chat while they address envelopes, assemble cards, stamp, and seal the Verse By Verse cards that we send out to donors. We also pray for the people who will be receiving them. What would take me days on my own they can do in one morning. It is such a blessing to me and the Bibleless! Oh, and the woman in the left of the photo is actually our division’s Executive Assistant. Judy is our go-to woman for pretty much everything and always takes great care of our volunteers. I’m so thankful to have her as a co-worker and friend.

We’re so thankful for you, too. Thanks for everything you do for the Kingdom and our family!

Our family took a 36-hour getaway to Waco over Spring Break. We went to the Dr. Pepper Museum, ate at Health Camp, hiked around Cameron Park, stopped by the Silos (too crowded!), and saw the apartment we watched the night before on Fixer Upper in our hotel room!

A Few Updates From the Island
with some Prayer Requests included

~ Our teammates Ryan and Jordan Kopke and their firstborn, Patrick, safely made it back to Vanuatu. Jordan says Patrick is pretty easy-going but the heat and time change have been a little rough on him. Pray for their family to continue to adjust well. Pray also for our other two missionary families that are in Vanuatu right now.
~ The next module of the VISTA program (Vanuatu Institute for Scripture Translation and Application) will start on April 10. Six of the fifteen translators are on Santo now, ready for classes to begin Monday. The others should be there Sunday and Monday. Pray for the translators as they are away from their homes and families this month. Pray for them as they study Greek and have exegesis classes. Pray for them to have wisdom and clarity as they translate more passages in Matthew, work on team checking some Old Testament passages, and prepare passages for consultant checking in August.

~ The volcano on Ambae is continuing to cause problems for most of the island. Some people are evacuating from South Ambae to other parts of the island that are less affected. The video in this Facebook post shows how the ash from the volcano is contaminating their rainwater (drinking water) supply. Sarambulu, where the video was taken, is very close to where one of our translators Reuben lives.
~ Please also continue to pray for our long term requests that: 1) When translated portions are ready for consultant checks that God will provide the consultant and the funds for the check. 2) That God will extend the lives of the translators and that they will be healthy so that each of them can see the result of the work that they are doing in translation.

Thank you for joining us in prayer and rejoicing for all God is doing! We thank God for each of you.
