Pray for the USA
With the recent unfolding events in Orlando, a call to pray for the United States of America should be obvious.
Followers of Jesus must simultaneously show love to the world and remain committed to the truth of God’s Word. That has been true for all of time and does not change. Horrific acts carried out by followers of any religion must not cause us to believe all followers have similar attitudes, mindsets, and intentions. No Christian wishes to branded by the acts of evil (bombing of abortion clinics, protests of military funerals, etc.) carried out by twisted individuals who warp the teachings of Jesus. Neither should we brand all followers of Islam as terrorists. Just as we are changed by grace, we must love and offer Muslims the same grace with which we are changed.
We must refuse to follow in the footsteps of people claiming that such acts are God’s judgment upon the victims in Orlando. As Paul wrote to the church at Rome, “Weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15). Angry calls for repentance made through bullhorns will do nothing in these times for the families who have lost love ones. Showing compassion for those whose lives are in turmoil will go much further to bring people to Jesus. Let the church be seen following our Lord by speaking gently with one whose morals are unscriptural but still holding to God’s standards (John 8:1-11).
It is seldom easy to see God’s glory shining in the darkness of such evil. However, we may rest assured that God is still upon His throne, and His purpose will not be defeated. May we offer ourselves to the hands of Jesus to used wherever we may live. May we demonstrate His love, truth, and glory to those around us. You think about that!
Praying for more to be His,
