AUGUST NEWSLETTER

Let me introduce myself… When I hear those words I often think someone is getting ready to sell me something. I hope that you’ll read them and know that my only agenda is to let you know a little of my heart for Jesus, His church, and New England.

I’m so excited to begin serving as the Lead Minister of RESTORE. My wife, Jennifer, and I moved our family (we have three children: Aria 12, Meira 10, & Asher 1) to Massachusetts eight years ago and we have come to embrace the people and culture of this region. Growing up as a minister’s son in the Midwest (Colorado and Missouri), I certainly wouldn’t have guessed that the Northeast would become home. Then again, if you had asked me in high school if I planned on becoming a minister like my dad, I would have responded with an emphatic, “No!” God must take humor in the fact that this year marks 20 years in the ministry for me. Throughout that time I have found such joy in serving the Savior of the world- Jesus Christ. I want to share the Good News of our gracious God every chance I get. I’m thrilled to begin doing just that here in Quincy, MA as the Lead Minister of RESTORE, though I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I am humbled by all the hopes and expectations that come with that role.

I would be grateful for your prayers as my family and I begin to serve with the great team that is already established here. There’s a lot of work ahead of us, but I am resting in the promise that God is with us and He will equip us for the task.  May God grant us wisdom and strength for a fruitful season of building His kingdom.

We have had a great summer at RESTORE!  The highlights have definitely been our neighborhood Block Parties.  We had two Block Parties in July and both were very well attended.  Thanks to the Disciples’ Days team and the Tri-Village Christian Church group for your help in making these events a huge success!  At our Block Party on July 28th, I had a great conversation with a woman named Eda.  Eda and her daughters attended one of our events last September and kept up with us on social media.  Within the last couple of weeks, they attended RESTORE on a Sunday morning!  This is just one example of someone who has been connected to RESTORE because of our community events.  Please be praying that more and more people stay connected to RESTORE and that their lives are transformed by the Gospel.

We are so thankful for the team from First Christian Church in Clinton, IL for their service from July 20-26. They worked to help us leave a good impression of RESTORE Christian Church on Quincy through their willingness to serve. One student, Sarah, shared this story with us about what happened while she was helping pass out door hangers for our Block Party on the 28th:  She encountered a gentleman who did not seem to have any connection with a church body in Quincy. In fact, this man brought up the movie “Spotlight” (which highlights the abuse scandal of Catholic churches that occurred in the greater Boston area in the early 2000’s). He had a good reason to mistrust the Church. However, when he heard that Sarah was working in connection with RESTORE, the man commented that RESTORE was one of the only churches he has seen in this area that cares about the community and is actively helping Quincy. This encounter has been so encouraging to all of us at RESTORE! People in our community are recognizing that we are not here to take from them. Instead, we are here to serve them and bring them hope. Our summer teams play a vital role in building credibility among the people of Quincy and in displaying the love of Christ. Thanks, FCC!
