Dear partners and friends
We would like to give an update regarding the Bondeni fire and share our plans for moving forward.
On February 17, a devastating fire broke out in the Bondeni community. More than 170 families were affected and the metal structure at our Bondeni school was destroyed. This building contained 18 classrooms which served 694 students. Desks, textbooks, and other school supplies were also lost in the fire. We thank God no one was injured and that our permanent building, which is under construction, was not damaged.
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to quickly raise funds and replace what was lost in the fire. Within two weeks, temporary classrooms were constructed and all the students returned to school. Classroom essentials including desks, writing pads, textbooks and Bibles were also replaced. All MOHI families whose homes were affected by the fire were relocated and each of their children received two new uniforms.
We have plans to finish the permanent building that is currently under construction. We also wish to begin construction on a second, permanent building on a nearby plot of land.
Thank you for the outpouring of love, support and prayers during this time. Your partnership is a blessing and we are grateful. Whether you are near or far, thank you for being a part of the Bondeni community. |
