A Report follows from a Christian on the results of the elections in India. Some have predicted the immediate persecution of Christians and other minorities following the election. This Christian, and many others, have a different view – one we share. Is there a chance persecution may increase? Yes, but it not guaranteed. Warlike activities and persecutions in the name of religion and in the name of God are wrong on so many levels. Acts of extremism on the part of any religion against others never accomplish anything good. Pray for a united India that respects religious freedom (the same may be prayed for in ANY nation), which will benefit all.
“You may have heard about the significant change in the India’s government. We now have a very strong BJP government in power. The new Prime Minister Mr. Modi was the Chief Minister (like a governor in a State in the USA) in the state of Gujrat. Gujrat has come up as one of the leading states of India when it comes to development of the infrastructure . However, there has been a massacre of Muslims for which he was in a way held accountable. This was the reason his US visa was denied in 2005. The other issue is that most of his cabinet ministers are coming from the extremist background. Overall we stay concerned, but not fearful. Whatever comes, we will face it with courage and go on boldly knowing His presence is with us.
“Personally in my view this government cannot take steps to attack minorities easily as now the Muslim population in India is about 15% and Christians about 8% ( which is amazing !!!!! ) If you take into consideration the population of other minority groups such as Sikh, Buddhist, Jains – all this comes to about 28%. No sensible government can ignore the minority group when considering 28% vote bank. So basically in my opinion India is standing on the crossroads and we are prepared to face better or worse…Again we need your prayers. He is always in control.” – a Christian in India
