“But be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart, consider what great things He has done for you.”

The following was written by Marti Swfit about the Chad, Africa trip

How Can it Be?

I just returned home from a mission trip and I can’t seem to shake the emotional strings. Talking with friends that have experience with missions, I’ve come to accept that it may take a long while to truly process what God desires me to know. It’s like getting a verse for the first time, you realize there’s something deep the Lord wants to teach you but it’s going to take studying and praying for the “more”.  I’m desperately seeking the “more” from this trip.

Only a week removed, and my mind is all over the place. I experienced a desolate land… is God trying to show me what life with a dead faith can look like? I think so.  I experienced darkness….is God trying to show me what life without HIS light and hope looks like? I think so. I experienced opposition….is God trying to show me what its like to live fully in His strength? I think so.

But thankfully, I’m experiencing a new and deep appreciation for WHO God is.  This is an experience I will rest in!  Think about it, what is your favorite attribute of God?  He loves? He’s forgiving? He never changes? He’s patient? He’s omnipresent? He desires relationship with us? He gives wisdom? He gives peace? He gives hope? He gives strength?  He’s slow to anger. For the first time, I realize I take all of these attributes for granted!  For the first time, I understand there are people that do not have a God that desires to give them the same things that MY God does!  That’s where the tears flow!  How can it be?  The very Being that shaped me and gives me all of these things freely, and daily, is not known to all people.   How can it be?  How does one live without the very attributes of My Lord and Savior?  People exist without these! How?

Needless to say, a new and fresh thankfulness is present in my mind for who He is. My heart is burdened for the lost and broken to experience God’s attributes. I know God has more to show me, and I’ll be reflecting on the past two weeks with prayerful pleading for a long while. But I will not waiver when given an opportunity to share with someone who does not know Him.
