Mission Vanuatu the Weldy’s – July 14 2016 – Winter in Vanuatu
Winter in Vanuatu
SUPPORT BIBLE TRANSLATION
You can make a difference – for the people of Vanuatu, our family, and eternity. God is using your prayers and financial gifts to further His Kingdom. Thank you!
Hello from wintery Vanuatu! Do you know what that means? We can actually sleep with the fan on LOW! We are loving the cooler weather while the nationals keep telling us it’s “kol kol” (cold). It’s been a busy month with two sets of visitors from the U.S. visiting our team and a VISTA module all at the same time! We are also finishing up the last bits of 5th, 7th, and 9th grade for the kids’ homeschooling so they can start 6th, 8th, and 10th next week! This way we can take off a few days or a week here and there throughout the year. Thank you for keeping up with our family and encouraging us as we live and serve in Vanuatu!
Matt & Angie
VISTA UPDATE
The June VISTA module is “in the books” and the
national translators have headed back to their villages.
The four teams were each able to translate the first draft
of 103 verses of Psalms and Proverbs! Some even
started the team checking on those verses. Now they
are advisor checking the Abraham story and
Deuteronomy passages from the last module.
Above left: Our first day in the new building! All of the VISTA classes will be held in this building along with our team office.
Above right: We had the “closing” VISTA meal in the nakamal. The VISTA building, nakamal, and the house our family is renting are all on one property together. We love it!
Some new friends took us out for the day on their sailboat. We had a great day together swimming at a blue hole, snorkeling, and then making our way back to where they are anchoring while they are in town.
The Nie family uses their sailboat for their ministry with a partner organization. Our team was also blessed by their ministry when they transported our translators to town for the June VISTA module.
Left: Ethan was feeling adventurous and decided to climb up the rope ladder while we were sailing!
Prayer Points
~ Aidan pulled a ligament in his hand and the lingering swelling provided the perfect breeding ground for a bad infection. We are thanking God that Aidan’s hand is now healing well and the only lasting effects should be some scarring.
~ Last week our PBT teammate (and Angie’s BFF) came to visit us with her daughter. We had a great week together showing them our life and ministry here. It was sad for Angie and Lauren to have to say goodbye knowing it will be over a year before we see them again.
~ Please continue to pray for the Kopkes as they grieve for Jordan’s dad. They are prayerfully planning to return to Vanuatu in September and we are so excited to have them back with us again soon!
~ Angie and her co-teacher Cristy Yan are planning a trip to Ambae the end of August to lead a Sunday School Teacher Training in 3 different parts of the island. Two of those areas are where some of our national translators in the VISTA program live. Please pray that we can pull together all of the logistical details and prepare a great training for the teachers.
