An Unhappy Birthday – with 1.6 million displaced and 600,000 refugees in neighboring countries and 4.6 million facing food insecurities, there was not much to celebrate during South Sudan’s 4th Birthday this past Thursday.
The United Nations gathered yesterday and voiced a strong rebuke to the leaders of South Sudan – “True leadership means making compromises. It means stopping the fighting, stopping the killing and raping, stopping the destruction of the country.”
As Christians, we understand that God remains in control and If his people, which are called by his name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then he will hear us from heaven, and will forgive our sin, and will heal our land.
As you review 2 Chronicles chapter 7 verse 14, think of ways that you can specifically pray for your own country as well as South Sudan.
Some suggestions to pray for would be:
1) Our enemies and those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44)
2) God’s honor,God’s will and God’s Kingdom (Matthew 6:9-10, 33)
3) Daily bread, provision (Matthew 6:11,Luke 11:3, 3 John 1:2)
4) Forgiveness of sin (Matthew 6:12, 1 John 1:9) including the sins of others ( Luke 23:34,1 John 5:16)
5) Escape from hard testing, affliction and temptation (Matthew 6:13, 24:20, 26:41 James 5:13)
6) The blessing of little children (Matthew 19:13)
