Cross Cultural Connection Newsletter
March 1, 1014
Dear Prayer Partners and Supporters of Cross Cultural Connection,
Here it is March 1 already. Seems that I just wrote the last newsletter! and that was a whole month ago! The Fairview Park church continues to forge ahead. We still have not got a lead concerning a minister, but continue to pray about that. Our members continue to fill in as needed. Scott does the majority of preaching and other things to keep the church moving. We have 5 or 6 teachers teaching the two children’s Sunday School classes. The younger class has been involved in a few worship services by singing special songs. Again, you can keep up with our activities on You Tube by looking for FPP.
I am involved in helping our choir prepare for Easter. We have around 7 in the choir and are learning a new song. It is an old song for me: Gone, by Eldridge Fox, published in 1979. A very appropriate song for Easter. Our older children’s class, VIC (Very Important Children), will also be participating in the Easter Service. All of the Sunday school teachers are encouraging the children to use their talents and abilities in the church services. The younger class is always enthusiastic, but the older class needs to be coaxed a little more! Dareth Chow who has just turned 15 is the pianist for our choir. I will be leading songs at the end of March and she will be the pianist that day also. She is doing a great job.
The month of February was busy with Chinese New Year activities. We had an outing on the 4th day of CNY. Marie Panti and Glo Layco were here from the Philippines for about 3 weeks. They are two of the three missionaries whom Fairview Park Church supports. They were an encouragement to our members by the way of speaking for church, visiting and getting reacquainted with members, taking part in the life of the church. By the way, our church has decided to increase their giving to missions by increasing the support of these 2 and one more by 5 to 10%. A significant step in the church giving and mission outreach.
Marie is busy promoting and organizing #8 IBS (Inductive Bible Study) scheduling. This #8 is the one that was all set to go the morning that Ken died, so it was cancelled. It is to be held April 7 through 17 just before Easter. IBS8 will be held at the Arwas church where Randy Fernandez is the minister. Randy is a previous student of IBS. They are expecting about 24 students from around 35 different churches. IBS continues to be a driving force in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Al Corson of Insight Resources(IR) is planning to be here in Hong Kong, Philippines and Myanmar soon. He is still working on his scheduling. I plan to go with them to Myanmar and possibly part of the time in the Philippines. Combining the teaching methods of IBS and IR is still an ongoing pathway.
Personally, I still have a Macular hole that needs to be dealt with. I am under observation at the moment. My next appointment is in June. This gives me a lot of time to think about questions to ask that I could not think of in the 10 minute visit last time! Also, I have an opportunity to go to China and Macau next week, March 8 – 11. This is purely a “relaxing” few days. I will go with Anna Law who attends our church. She is organizing the trip. I got a two time entry visa good for 3 months. Easy to get, but much more expensive than 30 years ago! I will visit her church work in Macau also during this trip.
Well, I am rambling a bit, but please continue to pray for Cross Cultural Connection, for me, for the Fairview Park Christian Church and things mentioned above.
I would close with the words of Isaiah for your encouragement: Isaiah 50:4 The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. 5 The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears;
This speaks to me in many ways. Be sure to read the whole passage! And perhaps one that is more familiar: Galatians 6:9: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Let us not give up, whatever the circumstances,
In Christ,
