Text books for students in Haiti

more than abc's and 123's

Dear friends,

It’s hard to believe that school is just around the corner; our Navajo children start back July 28 and our Haitian students resume classes September 8.  Where has the summer gone?!?

As part of the improvements through our Education Task Force for Haiti, we’ve realized that many of our Haitian students come to class without text books.  Lifeline cannot provide them due to the cost, and they are not included in the child sponsorship funds.  Our school director shared with us that there is a direct correlation between how well the students learn who have books versus those who do not.  This is sort of a “no brainer” but we see it in the children.

In years past, the availability and quality of the Haitian text books were poor. But that has changed!  There are now great books in French and Creole, yet the improvement in the books and curriculum comes with increased cost.  Unfortunately, the average Haitian income has not kept pace with the increased cost.  So, can you help them out?

The students need your help!

Assist one child!
If you sponsor a child in Haiti, would you donate $50 for your child’s text books? Simply mark “text books” on your check or purchase them online.

If you would like to assist a non-sponsored child with their text books, simply mark “text books” on your check or online in the Comments section.

Help a whole classroom!
If you have the capacity, would you consider sponsoring an entire class for books?  This is a big endeavor: 40 students at $50 each = $2,000.  Would your organization/non-profit, church, Bible study/small group, etc. consider sponsoring books for a class or a portion of a class?  Simply mark “text books” on your check or online in the Comments section.

School starts soon and most families cannot afford books so their children will come to class empty-handed, unless we intervene and help.

God bless you for considering this, and thank you in advance for giving!
