Converging paths

Suzi Dehoff from First Christian Church in Canton, Ohio and Peg Dietrich, from the Greenwood Christian Church in Canton, Ohio, joined several others from the Greenwood church on a mission trip to Haiti.  Both are veterans of multiple trips to Haiti with Lifeline.

As a result of seeing her sponsor child’s house on a previous trip, Suzi wanted to build a home for her sponsor child.  Like everyone who builds a home, raising the necessary funds became her focus as she prepared to come to Haiti.

Peg had been to Haiti, but her husband Dave never came.  However, he saw pictures of her trip and the Haitian people.  As Peg put it, he fell in love with the Haitian people through her trips, stories and photos.  He told her, “We need to do something to help them.”

Suzi’s and Peg’s paths converged as they joined with others on the team to pray, plan and prepare for their trip to Haiti.

Four months prior to the trip, Peg’s husband Dave passed away.  In lieu of flowers, she requested that gifts be sent to the Greenwood Christian Church to be used for missions.  There was an overwhelming response in the financial gifts given in Dave’s memory.    When Peg saw the amount that had been given, she realized that it could pay for a house in Haiti.   Dave’s desire to help the people in Haiti was about to become a reality.  Peg knew that Suzi needed funds for her sponsor child’s house and the money given in Dave’s honor would provide the needed funds to make that house a reality.

So, Suzi and Peg came to Haiti excited about the house that would be built.  Over the course of their time in Haiti they and the rest of the team built and dedicated the house.   The dedication service was meaningful to Suzi and Peg.   Suzi saw her vision of a house for her sponsor child and family become a reality, and the house was built in memory of Peg’s husband, Dave.

A family in Haiti has been blessed with a new home,  Suzie and Peg played a huge role in making that a reality, and Dave’s desire to do something to help someone in Haiti was fulfilled.  He left a legacy that will bless this family for years to come.   God orchestrated all of this to His glory – as He always does!
