Rosa Maria Rivera is a student from our school in Ocotillo. She lives in Aldea el Carmen, which it is five miles from Ocotillo, and attends a Christian Church at her community.
In February, she came to my office and asked me for an opportunity to continue studying in middle school.
Rosa lost her mom (Waleska) five years ago, whose death was a homicide, and like many children in Honduras, she does not know who her father is. She has been living with her grandmother, sister Daniela (11), and brother Brayan (9); all who live in poor conditions.
When she asked me for the opportunity to stay in school, she said, “I need an opportunity to continue to study. I cannot pay books or any supplies, and my grandmother cannot do it for me. I know this is a Christian school; I would like to study here, graduate, and help my grandmother and siblings.”
When I heard her determination, I answered “Of course, we will provide you the registration, books, and supplies.”
This teaches me why we are Lifeline and why Lifeline has schools. Our schools needs to be open for everybody who needs to know Jesus, but also whoever wants an opportunity to change their life, like Rosa.
Rosa came to our school and knocked on the door. At our schools, we have the mission to open doors to the children and youth who think they do not have more opportunities. We do not want to be a common school; every day we want to follow Jesus and teach His Word to our students.
Thanks to God because we have these schools in Honduras. Thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers who make it possible for many children to dream!
Now, Rosa is our new student in seventh grade, she has many dreams, is happy and ready to study.
That is why we are Lifeline. God is good.
