We have now helped publish books in 65 languages. If you want to know about the people who speak the most recent language on our completed projects list, get ready to do some research. Pioneer Bible Translators worked for many years to finish a New Testament for this people group. One of LATM’s board members was in the forefront of that translation effort, and asked for our help publishing a literacy primer. We have helped PBT and other ministries with primers, so the answer would have been “Yes” anyway, but this one is especially interesting to us because of the personal relationship and because it is a new language for us.
You know that the stability of the church in any culture relies on the written Word of God. Our own experience is that there is plenty to read, but many languages, although ancient, have no written form. Bible translators encounter that frequently as they work among unreached people groups. In those cases, as in this case, they develop the script and then teach the people to read it. So, literacy primers play an unusually crucial role in spreading the Gospel. It is exciting to think that a whole people group is becoming literate because they want to read the Bible.
Aruamu, by the way, and happy searching . . .
