Dear Friends and Partners,
Indeed God is gracious and you, His people are good. Since May, 2/3 of the friendly loan for the purchase of land for the Sizemore Center has been given. We have an outstanding balance on that loan of just a bit more than $20,000. It would be a great cause for rejoicing if it could be totally paid by the time we return to Indonesia (November 8th). Am I dreaming? There is evidence that it can happen! More than $40,000 has already been raised since May! Praise to the Lord, and much gratitude to each of you who have partnered in this effort.
Even though we are still a long way from having the funds on hand to build the Sizemore Center (still about $350,000 away from that goal), Dennis, often noted for his impatience, has had the “jungle” cleared from the overgrown parcel of land; and the remains of the once-luxurious house hidden in the “jungle” razed with human muscles powering modern equipment, aka sledgehammers.
We will be looking for ways to use the property to help generate funds for the construction of the Sizemore Center.
We would like to invite all ACC/Point U alumni, who had the privilege of studying with Professor or Mrs. Sizemore, to do as we have done. We counted all the credit hours of classes that we had with Professor or Mrs. Sizemore, multiplied that figure by a dollar amount and contributed it toward the Sizemore Center. If all who were blessed by their teaching during their 43-year tenure at ACC, would do likewise, we could build the Sizemore Center quickly. Would you at least pray about it?
The good folk at Compassion Christian Church (formerly Savannah Christian) sent a professional video team to Indonesia last year, we have received some good quality videos they produced. You may access a short version here, or a longer version here. This team did excellent work, even making fumblers like us look good. The longer versions does give them impression that both Lynn and I took Indonesian citizenship. In reality, only I did.
We have recently sent a newletter to those on the list. You can read the newsletter here.
We will be speaking to many fellowships where we are totally unknown as we participate in the NW School of Missions in Washington state, Oregon, and the Rocky Mountain region later this month and into October. We have prepared some basic info about Java Evangelism to share there, you can read it here.
Mrs. Sizemore for whom the Sizemore Center will be named, along with her husband, Professor Sizemore, has had a rough year physically. She was wheel-chair bound for a while, but has made good progress following recent surgery and rehabilitation. She has now returned to her home at Cornerstone (formerly Appalachian Christian Village) in Johnson City, mobile with the aid of a walker. Rejoice with her! We are eager to get the Sizemore Center built to honor two servants of the Lord who’ve had a great impact on our lives, and who have done so much to advance the gospel into neglected places.
If you wish to contact us while we are in the US, please call 706-402-2680 for Dennis; or 404-747-2179 for Lynn.
Thank you for your partnership!
Until all Clearly Hear,
SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST: Please pray for Bethany and the staff at Fast Start pre-K and Kindergarten. With Lynn in the US, and several teachers fighting illness, or assisting with family needs, they are often shorthanded. The staff puts in long, hard days, even when all hands are on deck. PRAY FOR NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS TO COME HELP FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, A FEW MONTHS, OR LONG TERM.
SOMETHING FOR YOU:
A beautiful 2017 calendar made mostly of professional photos done by a Christian gentleman, Gary S. Chapman, who has had assignments with publications of the caliber of “National Geographic”; and lovingly edited and printed by Mission Services Association, has been prepared for friends of Java Evangelism and the Sizemore Center. We trust the beauty of the calendar will make it a keeper for your home and/or office and that you will be reminded by the calendar and the notes throughout to pray regularly for ministry in Ambon throughout 2017. Folk who receive our periodic paper newsletters have one in the mail. Others may contact Dennis via FB messenger, email, or phone to request one.
