News & Prayer Updates from Indonesia

Java Evangelism

Dear Friends and Partners of Java Evangelism,

Something happened and one picture from our time in Java was elminated somehow.

Lynn was asked to lead a two day seminar for Bible College students on psychological and faith factors that help in overcoming fear in ministry.

We are very grateful for clear weather which has made the repairs the landlord has been making on the building we have rented go smoothly.

We have ordered shelving and are beginning to equip the mini-market.   We are focused with Win in getting the store operative ASAP.   It is our prayer that this project will generate income to help with the Operation Opportunity program.   Please pray that we can open our doors by early August.   The Muslim leader of our community is eager to have the store open and hopes we will be able to employ some from our neighborhood.  This is a desire we share.  We pray the shop will be a venue for witness to the Love of God and the Grace we find in Jesus!

We are moving ahead more slowly on the opening of Operation Opportunity (or OKe in Indonesian) than we had hoped.    Both Michael and Speedy have found interest in our program in Muslim neighborhoods.   We recovered, but more slowly than we had hoped, from head and chest colds we came home with from Java.   Michael was in a minor motorcycle accident a week ago which has laid him up with bangs and bruises — he’s still not functional; Speedy is preparing for a trip to his homeland with his family; Welly should come from the Bible College in a week or so; Narto is with Reni on her home island preparing for their wedding on the 29th of July.   We hope by mid- to late-August to have a full team on board.  We will also need to employ someone soon to help with basic administrative needs.

The programs we envision are:  1) helping at risk young people (especially elementary and Jr. High ages) with tutorials and educational assistance they may require; 2) Reading centers  ncourage the habit of reading; 3) skill training for older drop-outs (these may include wood working [Narto];  shopkeeping and hair styling [Winarno];  4) enhancement classes, such as English [Michael].   Please continue to pave the way with our prayers.

Pray for the gathering of a healthy (physically and relationally) team that will destory walls of separation between faith communities.   May we see the material fro destoryed walls used to build bridges into communities that have been closed to the Gospel.

I will share with us soon some specific financial needs at we have in Operation Opportunity.   If you want to assist with this program, you may send donations to Java Evangelism earmarked for Operation Opportunity.

Yours Until All Have Clearly Heard,
