Humble Service in the Body of Christ

by Lonnie Burley, FAME Director of Short-Term Trips

Team member, Kevin Smallwood treating a Buddhist monk

I recently returned home after serving with two FAME teams in Myanmar. There were 6 of us that spent an entire month serving alongside our Burmese brothers and sisters in Christ.  Your generous donations to FAME allowed our medical team to share the love of Christ through the distribution of needed medications/medical supplies to 800 patients who came seeking medical care at our 7 medical outreaches. In addition, we had the opportunity to host a 5-day CHE (Community Health Evangelism) TOT1 training for 50 Pastors and Community leaders and a 3-day Ladies’ Seminar with 31 ladies in attendance.  Healthcare topics specifically designed to minister to women were shared and 2 cultures joined together to bring honor and praise to the one and only God.

Romans 12: 6-8 talks about humble service in the body of Christ:

If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Donations to FAME make it possible for our short-term teams to humbly serve the Lord through the use of their God-given gifts.

Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of FAME through your giving and prayers.

How Can God Use You?

Medical missions teams are made up of both medical professionals and nonmedical team members. Usually, medical teams are about 15 members and one-third of them are typically medical professionals. Medical training or not, you can play an important part in God’s work. Doctors, nurses, dentists and other medical professionals play an obvious role on medical teams but so do electricians, teachers, business people, pastors, stay-at-home moms and anybody else with a heart for Christ are needed just as much. They are critical to the overall team.

An Urgent Need for Emergency Situations

Haitian Christian Outreach-Peredo Community Hospital

Started in 1985 by Pastor RoRo Eustache, Haitian Christian Outreach partners with Haitian Christians to transform a culture for Christ. HCO does this through church planting, children, health care and community development. HCO is focused on evangelizing, equipping, empowering and encouraging our partners using a biblical model of ministry. HCO currently has 11 churches (12th coming in 2018), 6 schools with almost 2,000 children, an outpatient hospital with 17 staff members and several different community development projects including compressed-earth block and poultry.

The hospital at Haitian Christian Outreach (HCO) has just completed 5 years of out-patient care and averages over 6,000 patients per year. As they finish an 8,500 sq ft surgical addition, they are in desperate need of an ambulance to reach those in crisis in SE Haiti. Peredo Community Hospital reaches out to a population of over 1 million underserved in a 5-hour driving radius.

At this time, they are limited in their ministry because of the lack of an emergency medical vehicle. Currently, they have a multi-use Landcruiser that is used for an ambulance if it is available, but it is neither equipped with personnel or equipment for emergency situations. It is also not available most of the time because it is used for mission travel and other needs.

In April of this year, HCO received a call at the hospital for an emergency situation. After an hour of tracking down a driver and vehicle, they made their way to the patient. The patient delivered twins in the back of the dirty Landcruiser that had been carrying car parts an hour from the hospital and one of the twins passed away immediately. Thus, they need this ambulance as their medical/surgical work continues to grow.

FAME has pledged $10,000 to help fund the new ambulance for HCO. If you would like to donate towards this project you can do so through our Donate Page or by sending a check to FAME with a note for HCO Ambulance.

Gifts From FAME Go Around the World

by Andy Schamerloh, FAME Director of Mission Resources

It has been a very active start to 2018 in the warehouse!  Recently, 2 shipping containers arrived in Aparri, Philippines at the Charles A. Selby Memorial Hospital.  The containers held 800 pieces of equipment and boxes of supplies for the newly renovated hospital.  A total of 10,000 pounds!  The pictures below show the joy and excitement of hospital staff as they unloaded the containers at 11 pm at night.  Included in the containers were hospital beds, gurneys, anesthesia machine, AEDs and many other needed supplies.  Through your partnership, we could help our brothers and sisters in the Philippines.

In early February, FAME loaded and shipped another container to Mashoko Christian Hospital in Zimbabwe.  This container had over 1,000 items at over 14,000 pounds!  It is scheduled to arrive in mid-April at the hospital.  Dr. Bungu is excited to receive the much-needed contents including 2 ultrasound machines, dental x-ray unit, hospital beds and mattresses and basic wound care supplies.

Over a third of our inventory was sent out in these 3 containers!  Now we are in the process of replenishing our warehouse to continue to meet the needs of our mission partners around the world.  Your donations, help, and partnership have made this all possible.  We give thanks to God and you for helping us spread the love and hope of Christ around the world.
