SOS Call!
FAME is sending out an urgent plea to our supporters on behalf of our Myanmar mission partner, Simon Thaung, of Asia Christian Services. Our FAME medical teams have worked with Simon on several trips in the last couple of years and they know first hand what a great work he is doing there.
We received communications from Simon this week that the recent cyclone that hit southeast Asia has left hundreds dead and millions displaced. With flooding in 12 of Myanmar’s 14 states, the water has destroyed close to a quarter million acres of farm land, left 150,000 people homeless, and 200,000 in need of immediate life-saving assistance. This is a country where 70% of the population lives on $2 a day.
“We need international help as the devastation areas are too big. All the barns, rice stores, rice paddy fields and homes were totally destroyed. The rehabilitation will take years,” wrote Simon.
This national emergency has given the Christians an opportunity to share the love of God and witness to so many. Simon’s latest email stated that he was leaving on a 10 hour boat ride to Buthi taung to distribute food, water, medicines and relief supplies.
Simon describes it, “There is no restaurant, NO restroom, NO INTERNET, No Phone, no coffee shop and we will become like flood victims. But we have learned how to survive. ‘ONE TEA SPOON OF PEANUT BUTTER can survive ONE DAY.’ We covet your prayer support. This Prayer TURNS MIRACLES in daily mission work at Whiteful mission field.” (Whiteful, meaning “fields white for harvest”)
