“Connecting youth to God”

Four years ago, we had a vision to offer a high quality, spiritually deep and fun youth conference for all of the teenagers within our ministry in the Dominican Republic. Therefore, we gathered together some key leaders, prayed about the vision, and after brainstorming for awhile our youth conference began to take shape.  We call it “Conecta2,” which means “Connected.”  The idea is that in today’s world, with social media allowing us to stay connected 24 hours a day, the world is more connected than ever before.  However, are we more connected to God than ever before?

During our three day youth conference, we challenge our students to disconnect from social media and to connect with God on a real, personal level.  Each year we have guest speakers, musical artists, and intense small group times to help our teenagers connect with God.  We celebrated our 4th Conecta2 Conference earlier this month and it was a huge success.  The teenagers had a lot of fun worshipping to loud, modern music as well as being challenged by the Word each and every day.

Short-term Team News
This month we hosted two short-term teams from the great state of South Carolina.  Both teams were from the same congregation, 1st Pres of Greenville, and both teams had a huge impact.

The first team was an adult team that primarily focused on medical outreach.  This team was full of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals. They worked in Brisas del Mar, a neighborhood of La Romana, offering free medical care for all who needed it.  The team ministered to dozens of people daily by giving them much needed medical care as well as praying with and sharing the gospel with each patient.

The second team from South Carolina was a large youth team that focused on ministering to children.  They held Vacation Bible Schools in Brisas del Mar as well as in our La Romana Christian Church.  The team did an awesome job and had a huge impact on the children!  Great job guys!

Furlough News

While the VandeLinde family is finishing their furlough, Ryan recently visited the Dominican Republic for several weeks.  Here is a picture of Ryan preaching while he was there.

Ryan’s visit was a huge success and he is very encouraged by the dedication and commitment of our Dominican leaders.  Each of our leaders is making disciples and leading their ministry well.  We praise God each and every day for our Dominican and Haitian team. They truly are a blessing!
