Go + Serve

This e-newsletter is designed especially for people like you who are considering cross-cultural missionary service. We know it can be an exciting, yet intimidating, journey and we want to walk alongside you in the process. We’ve been equipping and sending missionaries to the mission field for 65 years and are excited to explore how we may partner together. If you’d like to talk to someone in our Mobilization division email us at mobilization@cmfi.org or call 317.578.2700.

Thirteen years later … Meet Patrick and Katie

Patrick and Katie Gerber visited Nairobi in 2002 when CMF was researching ministry opportunities with the urban poor. Over the years, Patrick’s staff role with CMF allowed him to continue partnering with Missions of Hope International (MOHI) – CMF’s ministry partner in Kenya –and make return trips with Katie. In 2008 Katie stood in the back of the room at one of MOHI’s schools and heard the call of the Lord to come and serve there. Now, 13 years later, Patrick, Katie, and their daughter Hannah are preparing to work with CMF’s urban poor team in the slums of Nairobi.

Be an ex(change) student

Every semester, Globalscope’s Study Abroad internship program offers students the chance to serve and be involved with a community of faith while living and attending college classes in another country. With opportunities in Mexico, Chile, Spain, England, Germany, Scotland, and Thailand, this part-time internship will enhance your study abroad experience in a challenging and exciting way! Participants will be immersed in a new culture and language, build the campus ministry through their service, grow in personal and spiritual disciplines, and ultimately make a change in international students’ lives for the Kingdom!

The application deadline to study abroad in the fall of 2016 is December 31. Start your application today!

Where could I serve?

You can look at all our updated personnel needs here: Personnel Needs. If none of the urgent personnel needs seem like a good fit for you, we’re happy to talk about other opportunities that might be a good match. Some current needs include the following:

Agricultural Specialist, Ivory Coast: An individual with expertise in agriculture or farming is needed in this ministry. An established team already on the ground uses Community Health Evangelism as a ministry strategy. Because Ivory Coast has many natural resources, farming is a legitimate way of making an income and providing for a family. This individual would work alongside the CHE program to help educate Ivorians on successful farming techniques and also explore ways of growing other plants or food. A background in agriculture and a four-year commitment is required.

Community Development Worker, Trujillo, Peru: CMF is looking for individuals with a heart for the urban poor to work in the city of Trujillo, Peru. Trujillo is a city of 1.2 million people, the second largest city in Peru. Work alongside Peruvians using Community Health Evangelism principles and discipleship to minister to the urban poor. Individuals must have the ability to work under national leadership, and will be trained by and report to a North American team leader. A two- to four-year commitment to the ministry is preferred.

Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, Nairobi, Kenya: Our ministry in Nairobi, Kenya, currently oversees the education of nearly 13,000 children in the Mathare Valley slums. As part of the ministry’s holistic care, the children receive professional medical and dental care. An experienced physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner is needed to work in the main ministry center at Pangani and at the new health center at the boarding school in Joska. A one- to two-year commitment is preferred.

Stay tuned to hear about more upcoming opportunities in CMF’s newest fields, India and Sri Lanka!

What We’re Reading

In an age where the needs around the world can be known by the click of a mouse, it’s easy to get swept up in the desire to change the world. Social media has made it trendy to be passionate about justice and raising awareness for causes that pull at our heart strings. However, in “Overrated,” Eugene Cho challenges readers with this painful and honest question: “Are we more in love with the idea of changing the world than actually changing it?” In response to this question, Cho transparently shares the story of his own family’s journey with justice and the sacrifices involved in doing something real about it. In the process, “Overrated” beckons believers to rise up to our call in God’s Kingdom so we may live beyond just talking about our convictions. Get your copy here
