Nepal Earthquake

A popular tourist destination, hundreds and thousands people go to Nepal, every year, to see the beauty and the architecture the county has to offer. On a typical Saturday morning, many Nepalese churches come meet for weekly worship services. On Saturday, 25th April 2015, at 11:56 AM, when many Nepalese brothers and sisters in Christ were worshipping, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake occurred with. It destroyed almost everything in the country. The capital of Nepal is Kathmandu, a very beautiful city filled with many sightseeing and historical places. The unexpected and violent earthquake brought destruction to the capital city, bringing down the city and buildings to a zero level. From 25th April to today, 28th April, approximately 45 earthquakes have happened in the country. It has brought a huge destruction. Thousands of people are injured, missing, or dead. The death toll is increasing each hour as more bodies are found under the debris. It is reported more than 500 Christian brothers and sisters are dead. Many Christians have lost their homes to the earthquake and are left with no shelter or food.

The total population of the Nepal is nearly 30 million. Nepal is a Hindu dominated country. 85% of Nepal is Hindu and 10% is Buddhist. Government data reported less than 2% Christians in 2011. Due to the number of underground churches and the growth of Christians in Nepal, we believe that there is now more than 4% Christians. CICM planted the Nepal Christian Church in May 1999. Bro. Prem Rai leads the church. Since 1999, the church has grown and is continuing to spread the Word of God throughout Nepal. Over the last 15 years, more churches have been planted, and more doors are being opened to reach the lost people of Nepal.

According to a 2012 report, with a total GDP of 19.21 billion, Nepal is one of Asia’s poorest countries and has little ability to fund major reconstruction on its own effort. How can this country help its own people after such a devastating disaster? Many countries are raising a helping hand towards Nepal. We, too, can help the afflicted people of Nepal.

We have a great challenge to help this country that is suffering. Following is a report of specific needs for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Nepal who have been affected by the earthquake, as well as the needs of the many who are lost. Now is the time to show them the love of Jesus and help them through this devastating time.
