March Mission Madness
Greetings in Christ Jesus!
It’s March and along with some warmer weather comes basketball tournaments. Today – March 19, 2015 – the 2015 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament gets going in full motion.
It is estimated that over 750,000 brackets will be filled out by fans trying to predict the tournament results correctly. Do you have your bracket filled out?
Today (03.19.15) also marks the unofficial start to our mission trip season. From now until August, we’ll have 300-350 volunteers involved our short-term mission trips all over the world.
This weekend, we have a group of 40 people from the Okolona Christian Church in Louisville, KY, coming to Eastern KY to work with us in Salyersville, KY.
They will help the Salyersville Christian Church (pictured below) in renovating a facility across the street from the current church. This facility will be used to aid the community in housing families that have been displaced by fire as well as house short-term mission teams for the local and surrounding areas. Eventually, we hope it will also serve as the parsonage for a church plant minister as we hope to “re-launch” the church. The church has been struggling of late with only 10 regular attenders on Sundays.
Blessings from Belize
Our missionaries Dan & Toni Underwood have moved to a new area of Belize and have begun ministering in an area known as Cotton Tree Village (located 6 miles from the Capital City of Belmopan).
A few weeks ago, a visiting mission team from another organization was looking for a work project in the area. Dan connected them to a much-needed home building project for a lady living in the village.
The team worked for 2 days and was then too worn out to be of much help for the rest of the week. Not only that, but they were short on funds to finish the project.
However, through the coordinated efforts of Mission Journeys & a church in Florida, the house project was able to be finished.
With a generous financial gift from New Hope Christian Church in North Fort Myers, FL, Dan paid a full crew of workers, purchased the materials for the roof and made sure the project was completed on time and in good shape.
This project (pictured below) is a true labor of love in Belize.
Thanks again, New Hope Christian Church!
Another great story is that of Kirk Casey (pictured below left). Dan (pictured below right) has been talking with him for several weeks about his relationship with the Lord. This past week, he called Dan and said that he could see from the scriptures we talked about that he needed to be baptized to receive a cleansing from his sin and live a new life in Jesus.
He was immersed into Christ on the afternoon of Sunday, March 15th. There is victory in Jesus!
Bomb Blasts in Pakistan
Our International Bible School Representative, Wesley Bell reported on recent happenings in the nation of Pakistan…
“I received a phone call from our IBS representative in Pakistan. He said that on the morning of March 15, 2015, there were two brutal attacks of militant terrorist on two churches in Lahore, Pakistan. Over 800 people were present in both Churches for Sunday services when two suicide bombers tried to enter into the Churches and blasted. These bombings were only 500 meters (a third of a mile) from our IBS offices.
Nearly 20 people have died due to severe injuries and more 150 people injured badly. Christians hurt in the bombings are being denied medical care in the government hospitals.”
Please send up special prayers for our work in Pakistan and the large Christian communities in Lahore and throughout Pakistan.
There nearly 4 million Christians in Pakistan and a majority are in Lahore in distinct Christian communities.
