Young Hero – Jesus is a 12 year old hero. His nick name is Pollo, which means chicken. He lives with his dad, his three sisters, and his niece in a two-bedroom place on the elementary school’s lot in Cheguevara (his dad takes care of school.) Cheguevara is a dangerous barrio with a lot of gang activity. Pollo has two brothers. One brother, Manuel, works with us. His other brother, Jorge, is a drug dealer who recently got out of jail. Jorge has two young children with a young woman named Eugenia. Eugenia now lives with another man in the same barrio. Recently there was a fight between Jorge, Eugenia, and her boyfriend. There were several young children around. At one point the boyfriend pulled out a gun and started waving it around. Then he fired the gun at one of the little girls. Pollo was standing next to her and put his arm out to protect her. The bullet hit him in the arm, instead of the little girl’s chest. The boy we now call Super Pollo saved that little girl’s life. After a short stay in the hospital, he is home, and we are all praying for a swift recovery.
