N. Africa – Tom and Sandie have mobilized to work on the field together for the first time. Among the Mercy Mission they will provide medical care and evangelistic outreach. Director Kurtis Kight has taken on the role of security director during the mission, this is a new position and one of several tasks formerly operated by Sandie.
South Sudan – Free Press greatly compromised.
War continues between Rebel forces, predominantly of the Nuer tribe in opposition to the Dinka tribe, the ethnicity of the seated president. Yesterday Governmental security officials have warned the press “ When you are disseminating material of the rebels in the country you are actually agitating the people against the government,” Journalists who report the views of rebels led by former vice President Riek Machar are “rebels and agitators” and could face prosecution.
Ethiopia – Refugee Camp closed
Lietchuor camp, ( near Gambella ) home to almost 40,000 refugees from South Sudan, has been made uninhabitable by flooding.The road built on a strip of elevated land is the only remaining habitable area, and some of the refugees have set up their tents there. Others have left the camp, with hundreds sheltering with host communities in nearby villages or in churches. Currently there is no suitable way to relocate the refugees.
Pray for Tom and Sandie’s health and safety as regional instability increases and Ebola threat morphs.
Pray for the team to yield for the divine appointments that God weaves together and for protection from interruptions.
