2013 December

Newsletter

Dear friends, prayer partners and support of Cross Culture Connection,

December has started out in an unusal way:

1.  Fairview Park Christian Church(FPCC) received a 2ndrejection from the Immigration Department for a working visa for Cody to come as minister.  This a disappointment for us and now we need to search out other avenues to fulfill this need. Our members have requested a general meeting in which we can discuss different ideas.  We will hold this meeting as soon as possible.

2.  I spent last Sunday night, Dec. 1, through Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 4, in the nearby Pok Oi Hospital!  Late Sunday afternoon I stepped up onto a footstool to reach something.  As I stepped up, my left knee snapped!.  Since there was no way I could walk, we called an ambulance and I had a trip to the hospital.  An x-ray showed nothing was broken.  The diagnosis was a sprained knee.   They let me go home when the pain subsided and I could walk again.  I came home with extra strength ibuprofen and crutches.  I was a bit worried about getting up to my 3rd floor apartment, but it wasn’t too bad.  Thekey word is S L O W!  So, two days at home now and I am catching up on the preparations for FPCC’s 34th Anniversary.  I have spent these two days in my office, trying not to go up and down the stairs too many times.  Scott and Evelyn have taken good care of me, bringing lunch and supper and getting some groceries.  I don’t plan to go out again until Sunday.

I thank you for putting the first two items on your prayer list!  Here is some more:

3.  My Sunday School class.  I have 9 students, ages 11 to 14. Please pray for these students by name!  They are Jasmyn Smyth, Ian Wong, Dareth Chow, Lok Hymn Chow, Isaac Tsang, Elvis Lee, Charlotte Lee, Crystal Kei and Ryan Ng.  We have spent 3 weeks discussing truth.  What is truth, how do you define truth and where can you find truth.  One definition they gave was “the opinion of the majority of people”!   Please pray for them to open their minds to the truth presented in the Bible, and for ME to have the wisdom I need to present the Lessons I have on Self-Acceptance and others from the Institute of Basic Youth Conflicts.  I feel this material is very applicable for young people as they start their teen age years.  I have found Isaiah 45 to be very interesting in laying the ground work for these lessons:  God proclaims his work as creator!

4.  Our long time pianist and translator Olivia Cheung is getting married in January.  Please pray for her and Wu Wing Kwong as they plan for the wedding ceremony and their future together.  Ken had started to do marriage counseling with them, but only had a few sessions.  Olivia is a long time Christian and Wing Kwong fairly new.

5.  Preparation for FPCC’s 34th Anniversary this Sunday, Dec. 8.  Many people are preparing for a big day.  Wing Wong will be our speaker.

6.  Church member, Dorothy Cheng’s mother passed away this past week.  Her funeral was today, Friday, Dec. 6.

7.  I will be speaking for the New Testament church in Tsim Sha Tsui services on Dec. 22.
