DID I HELP EVEN ONE?

I walked our study group through the It’s All About Relationships lessons. Afterwards everyone who had participated was so eager to help friends and family hear about God’s amazing offer of peace and a restored relationship with him. It was then I saw one dear friend almost shudder. Rachel had never given thought to a dark truth. “I doubt that I’ll see anyone in heaven who will thank me for getting them there.”
She is a wife, mother and grandmother…but had never coached any family member or friend on how to accept God’s offer of peace. Here she was, in her 70’s, a long time Christian realizing that of all the thousands of conversations she had enjoyed with co-workers, neighbors, bowling buddies, fellow college students and countless others…she had never offered to show them how to become a follower of Jesus.
“What was I thinking?" she begged of us. Rachel was always quick to extol the wonders of her Camaro. She bragged about a husband who could ‘do anything’. Her undying devotion to the University of Oregon was well known. But somehow she thought that talking about Jesus and his extravagant love would have been too personal…too much an invasion of their privacy.
But now, upon completing the evangelism course she was regretting that in all of her dealings with others Rachel had neglected to tell others of what matters most in life. “Nobody will thank me for helping to get them there." she whispered. Although things will change, there is no retrieving all of those years, the missed opportunities, especially with those who had slipped from the land of the living. “Nobody.”

This kind of story can be heard a thousands times over. And to think it could all be changed if we were just training our people how to approach people, see if they would be interested in knowing how to be right with God, and then sharing with them in a calm, respectful way how to do that. My experience is that less than 1% of churches are equipping their people how to do that. SAD, sad, sad.

And all the while we have a way to equip them to be able to do so. It is called Relational Evangelism. Those of you who get these messages already know about it. Do you or someone you know need this training? There is still time. The next course starts August 20.
