Your 60 Second Prayer Update: Equip Britain |
|
Ministry Highlight
Reggie, Equip Britain is entering its second year under the leadership of our CMF teammates David and Teresa. After a successful first year with a group of six, David has expanded the leadership team. This team will welcome a married couple as this year’s participants, while preparing for a larger cohort in Autumn 2019.
What is Equip Britain?
Equip is an immersive cross-cultural experience. It focuses on learning to make disciples in a diverse urban environment. Over a period of ten months, participants learn about being team, how to initiate spiritual conversations and start discovery Bible studies, and engage with people from the major world faiths. Each person also receives personal coaching and mentoring. When Equip concludes, each person will have a foundation for entry into a field anywhere in the world. |
|
How have we been helping?
In the first year, we contributed to the training and provided personal mentoring to each team member. In this second year, we are mentoring the mentors who will take responsibility for the annual cohorts moving forward. Our focus is on Sheri (Matt), Nathanael, and Jennifer who will look after Eric and Katie.
What’s next?
While on furlough ministry this autumn, we will promote and recruit for the September 2019 team. We will continue to help David and Teresa develop Equip, the training curriculum and experiences, and the leadership team, but step back from mentoring to focus on other areas of our ministry action plan.
How should I pray for Equip Britain?
- Pray for the leadership team: David/Teresa, Sheri (Matt), Nathanael, Jennifer, Tim/Tammy; to model godly leadership in living out the principles and practices we want to pass on.
- Praise God for the influence Equip had on last year’s group: Nat has joined the leadership team, Jenn is raising support for a long-term return to England with Companions for Hope and Equip. Jeff/Megan are raising support to return to work in B’ham. Robyn is seeking placement in SE Asia and Jacob is looking to work with University students.
- Pray for Eric and Katie to settle-in and get stuck-in quickly with new relationships and disciple-making practices.
- Pray for new workers who will join Equip in 2019. Download and share the document from this link. Send us their names! Pray Luke 10.2.

Aho Family News
A few days after our last PrayerFlash! on 19 August we were burgled while asleep upstairs. The thieves made off with the car (just purchased after the last one was written off from a rear end collision in March), motorbike, tools, and a few other household goods. They broke in through the garage, then through the back door, and went through the cabinets, drawers, and rooms of the ground floor.
Yes, we had everything insured. Yes, we have improved security. No, we have not lost anything of eternal significance – it was only stuff! But having somebody in the house has had an impact on our emotions in the short term. And the paperwork and phone calls with insurance representatives is a hassle we really don’t need while preparing for furlough ministry. We are feeling the effects of this summer’s losses. |

Prayer Highlights
- Please pray for our ‘recovery’ from the break-in and thefts.
- Praise God with us that we are safe and are insured.
- Pray for our travel logistics and preaching/presentations preparations (we’ll have an itinerary in our next PF).
Tuesdays – Our Companions for Hope missional community meets for prayer, planning, lunch, and communion after Place of Welcome (local community gathering). There are now 15 of us committed together for mission in Summerfield. Pray for hearing God together for next steps.
4th – We meet with a new team forming to focus on recruitment, placement, training and equipping that will mobilize prayer and new global workers in Birmingham. This is a significant development that needs prayer cover.
5th – Neighbour Nights meets at the local parish church hall. Hosted by Companions for Hope, we gather around food and promote serving each other in the neighbourhood.
7th – Hub gathering for local leaders in disciple-making and church planting. Pray for those needing training and encouragement to make attending a priority.
10th – National Leadership Team of the Fellowship of Churches of Christ meets.
14th – 16th – Forge training weekend #3. Pray for our final weekend to be significant in the life and missional effectiveness of participants, resulting in new disciples & churches.
18th September – We depart Birmingham to visit you and 24 churches in 11 weeks! Pray for our travel and preparations for presentations, preaching, and conversations. Pray for protection in travel. Pray for connections with people who will become part of our support base, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. |
