When Faith Intersects Development: Kibera, Kenya

During the summer of 2015, we sent the Institute for Urban Initiatives into six communities we’d phased out of in order to examine the long-term sustainability of our work. Before we partnered with churches in Kibera, the community suffered deeply from the generational bondage of poverty. Longing to provide for their families and improve their standard of living, churches within the slum were eager to partner with us to be empowered by our model. Local leaders formulated an initiative for a shoe project in order to teach locals basic business skills. The project grew immensely and developed the community beyond merely providing relief.

Kibera’s story of transformation gives hope for the generations to come. God has used LIA to sustainably equip and empower communities and individuals in places like Kibera all across Africa. Watch the video below to see how God transformed this community!
