Dear Reggie,
I love seeing how God works.
In February, we found out about a possible grant for Biblical literacy. Others in the organization thought Vanuatu was a good fit, and we’re always excited to get more support for the work in Vanuatu. So Matt wrote the grant proposal and had a phone meeting with the organization. A few weeks later we received an e-mail from them. We got the grant! We now have $5,300 for more Sunday School teacher trainings, like the one in the photo below.
Now to the fun details of God working…
1. Matt wrote this grant proposal. Usually I’m the grant writer, but since that’s not my job for PBT anymore and he’s the Vanuatu Team Leader, he did it this time. I would usually do the work and another field would benefit. This time I did almost no work and the grant benefits me (or at least the work I head up in Vanuatu)! It felt so backwards and fun to me. Thank you God for the smile.
2. When Matt had the phone conversation with the organization – Ministry Brands – they asked something we’d never heard before…"Do you need money for anything else?" Wow! So we also got $1,000 for micro SD cards that we can load with audio Scripture portions, the Bislama New Testament, and the Scripture apps our team has created. This will be our second wave of micro SD distribution once we get them ready to go.
3. One day we got a Facebook message from a college friend who asked if we’d gotten a grant from Ministry Brands. Why yes we did! How did he know? He works for them and had read about Pioneer Bible Translators in their company newsletter article about recent grant recipients!
Thank you God for the fun ways you’ve made us smiled and blessed the people of Vanuatu with this grant.

Mission Dollars at Work!
One of my teammates, Marsha Relyea Miles, coined the phrase "Your mission dollars at work!" She always said that was what donors to the organization wanted to hear about most. (What do you think – is she right?) A couple weeks ago, I received an e-mail from one of my teammates, Kyle. Seven years ago I got to visit Kyle and his wife Katie in France and a week earlier I had spent some time in the Baga village where they now live! Another fun God thing.
Here’s what Kyle said about the Verse By Verse funds that donors have given:
"The Verse By Verse funds have had a tremendous impact on Baga translation acceleration. Within the Baga translation team, we’ve had a lot of hoopla recently of a steady and consistent rise in our annual translation average. This change is significantly due to the availability of Verse By Verse funds to our project. They have allowed for the travel of two of our national translators Abou & Seny as well as our exegetical advisor, Marty. These guys would normally be working remotely, but Verse By Verse funds have enabled them to work face-to-face 4+ times each year. The Verse By Verse funds have also helped add computers to our translation team allowing more people to contribute on a daily basis. Additionally, we have been able to go from one national working on the team to six nationals with the extra funds. Those six folk and other changes over the past couple of years due to Verse By Verse have greatly led to our consistent, increased output of translation. We were sitting at under 2% completion of the Bible [per year] for yeeeeears. As we had access to Verse By Verse funds, we grew to a 3.75% annual completion of the Bible and continue to see a gradual increase on that number each month indicating that we have seen a long-term shift in translation progress and not just a short spurt."
Your mission dollars are at work through our family – through Angie’s work heading up the Verse By Verse initiative and through Matt’s work writing grant proposals. We thank God for each of you. Working together we can all bring God’s Word to the nations!
Angie (for Matt & the kids, too) |
