Job Position: Partially-funded Junior-Senior High School Educator 

Ishinomaki Be One Academy 

Who: Be One, a team composed of North American and Japanese missionaries, is looking for an educator to help facilitate the learning of our junior and senior high missionary children. 

Where: We are located in Ishinomaki, Japan, and are focused on multiplying disciples, church planting and continued recovery efforts in the region hard-hit by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. 

When: Starting as soon as possible in 2017. 

Job Description: The educator will direct and provide tutoring/teaching in the independent studies of 4 – 5 junior high and senior high English-speaking students. Our junior high students, making the transition from Japanese elementary school to English home schooling, will require the most hands-on teaching and guidance. For our high school students, the primary focus will be guided discussions, checking work, schedule tracking and overall supervision and mentoring. The educator will work closely with our families to determine academic requirements and curriculum needs. 

Qualifications: 

  • • Degree in teaching or a specialized subject with a certificate in education. Preferred minimum of two years teaching experience. 
  • • Ability to teach junior high and high school levels, with a willingness to tutor various subjects. 
  • • Desire to lead and inspire children to follow Jesus, first of all, and to be life-long learners. 
  • • Creative, energetic and well-organized, with excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • • Maintains a personal vibrant walk with Christ. 
  • • Commitment to our team’s ethos and vision. 
  • • Intercultural and/or international living experiences a definite advantage. 
  • • Currently residing in Japan or able to come ASAP. 
  • • Applicant must be of sound mental and good physical health and have no criminal record. 

 

Educator/Classroom Support: Additional support from team members may be available, as well as potential long-distance support and opportunities through Christian Academy Japan, an international school in the Tokyo area. 

Partial Financial Support: Our team will provide housing and other benefits, including a partial monthly stipend. We are looking for a mission-minded teacher who is willing to raise partial financial support from home churches, family members, and other individuals. The amount of support needed would partially depend on the applicant. Contact us for details. 

Visa: Be One will provide sponsorship in coordination with a stateside church or organization. 

Working Hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. (Includes teacher prep time.) Occasional team activities, retreats, etc., may be required. 

Holidays: All Japanese holidays; Winter Break-2.5 wks; Spring Break-2 wks; Summer Break-4 wks.
