1) Bible Storying: Take Jesus’ Story to Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime

Tell a series of bible stories to communicate the gospel to any person of any age, any language, any culture, and any background. Use oral Bible storying to reach your family, neighbors, and co-workers, and to reach an unreached people group, whether across the street or across the world. Join the StoryRunners Intro to Storying, an interactive workshop March 11-16, 2018or August 19-24, 2018 in Orlando, FL (USA) to learn oral bible storying and how to implement it in your current ministry. You’ll also hear how you can help to start church planting movements among unreached peoples around the world. Get more information and submit an application at

2) How to Mobilize Missionaries to the Unreached

The Storyline Study is a study guide for the global church to deepen their understanding of God and His global mission. Church leaders around the world (including North America) are using this to awaken their people to deeper ways of missional engagement. Training thousands of leaders and laymen in 16+ countries, the Storyline Study is becoming a useful tool for mission mobilization. For more, see…

3) Author of “Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus” Needs Your Prayers

Many (zillions?) have benefited from his book, “Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus.” But now he could use their prayers — and yours too. Nabeel Qureshi was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer in August. His recent video (from his hospital bed) is incredibly sobering. See his website…

http://www.nabeelqureshi.com

for background info. But see this video for a most sobering update:

Can we all please unite in prayer for this courageous man of God?

4) What Do We Know About Galactic Communications?

This Galactic place…

https://galacticomm.org/index.html

sounds so Star Wars-ish. And their encryption/security measures seem, on the surface, designed to keep out the Borg.

https://galacticomm.org/security.html

Is this for real? Does anyone know any inside information on these folks? There are limits to how much they’ll store (10 Gig). But everything else seems really ideal — if it’s for real. Anyone have any history with them and/or can vouch for the ownership?

5) Using the Tool in Everyone’s Pocket

Everyone (just about?) has a mobile phone. When you stop and think about it, this offers an amazing opportunity for Kingdom advancement. “Mobile in Mission: Using the Tool in Everyone’s Pocket,” is a 5-week online course in mobile ministry basics. Instructor Keith Williams is the director of Mobile Advance and has assisted in implementing mobile ministry initiatives in more than 35 countries. Learn more and register here:

6) Have You Ever Been Driving and Wondered, “Where Am I?”

Here’s a website that hopes to put an end to all those questions:

http://www.WhereAmIRightNow.com

WhereAmIRightNow analyzes your IP address and, assuming you’re not using a VPN, pinpoints your location quite precisely. Obviously, it works better if you’re using a cell phone. (If you’re not, sometimes it’s dead in the water.) But other than that, it could be a useful deal. Is it better than GoogleMaps? Well, if you’d rather not give over your location to Google for some reason, yes — for sure. Is it as fast as GoogleMaps? Nyet. Not by a longshot. In fact, sometimes it’s slow as pond water. But is it interesting? For sure — again, especially if for some reason, you’ve decided you don’t want GoogleMaps to track you. It reportedly uses cell towers, when available, to triangulate your location. Could that be true? So 24-ish.

7) Earbuds that Provide Real-Time Foreign Translation? Really?

You’ve seen those cool devices that make the rounds on social networking sites, we’re sure. But have you seen these?

https://www.seeker.com/tech/gadgets/wireless-earbuds-provide-real-time-translation?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=seeker

Would these not be great for the elders at your church on a short-term mission trip to visit you in the field? I mean, just imagine: some of your first disciples are there in your house, singing your praises about how hard you’ve worked to get a disciple-making movement going and, alas, then you have to turn and translate it all to your visiting shepherds. It just — LOSES something when you have to be the one who explains how much they’re bragging on you! But imagine if your donors could hear for themselves — in their own language! Would that not be cool? Of course, are they real? We did some research and found that…

http://www.snopes.com/waverly-labs-pilot-earpiece-translates-spoken-language/

Snopes could never verify or talk with ANYONE who had ever used the tech. Have you heard any differently? If that’s the case, these Star Trek type devices might still be a ways off in the future. (Is Waverly Labs for real? : ) )

8) Pray for Unreached/Unengaged Peoples in New York City

Global Gates has done the world a big favor by preparing the very detailed listing of unreached and unengaged people groups in New York. Check it out at…

http://unreachednewyork.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/ChurchPlantNeedsSimpleMetroNYJune20121.pdf

Note that the first 12 priority groups are all Jewish. Also, note that there are unreached groups from all over the world there. Please ask God to raise up harvesters, to bring help and hope as needed, and to work a mighty miracle in their midst. Thanks.

9) What Are the Top 100 Missions Churches in the USA?

If an editor of a national Christian magazine were to ask you, “What are the top 100 missions-focused churches in the USA,” Which churches would you name? If you have a nominee, please click “Comment” following the web version of this item. Also, in addition to the name of the church, please don’t forget to provide the city and state. If you’d also like to provide some rationale for your pick, it would be helpful. In other words, why do you think they deserve the nomination?

10) Would Anyone Know How Many Missions Outreach Staff Exist Today?

Suppose a national Christian magazine were also to ask for the number of missions pastors in the USA (including full-time, part-time pastors or missions directors). What would be your best guess — and do you know of any sources? Are there directories for lists like this? (This is a major Christian magazine asking.) If you have any ideas, please click “Comment” after the web version of this item. Thanks.

11) Is Christianity Failing? If so, Why?

There is little doubt that, down through he ages, Christians around the world have made a huge contribution for good. So why is it that their numbers seem to be decreasing? One researcher compiled these figures of Christianity as a percentage of population:

UK: 1900, 96.7%; 1990, 72.4%; 2001, 71.6%; 2011, 59.50%; 2016, 42%
Europe: 1900, 94.5%; 1990, 78.5%; 2001, 76.1%; 2011, 72.00%; 2016, 61%
USA: 1900, 96.6%; 1990, 86.5%; 2001, 84.2%; 2011, 77.50%; 2016, 67%

Some question, with all our technology and progress, what would cause our numbers to tumble so profoundly. What are YOUR theories? Why do YOU believe these numbers are happening? The researcher who prompted this question is, himself, South Asian. He’d love to assemble the research and make a different to help reverse these trends. Will you help by giving your opinion? Just click “Comment” following the web version of this item. (Thanks for asking the question, John Paul!)

14) The LastBit: Learning From Hurricanes, Fires and Floods

What have we learned from floods in Bangladesh, fires in the Great Pacific Northwest (USA), and Hurricanes Harvey and Irma? A lot. For example, we’ve learned that news crews will risk life and limb just so you can feel the brunt of the wind and danger. See this NY Times article for the long and short of it.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/10/business/media/hurricane-irma-broadcasts-safety.html

It includes bits like — an interview with Dan Rather, who states that he believes his hurricane coverage in 1961 was his first big break and possibly was the beginning of his trip to becoming a major network news anchor person. But the article also honestly analyzes the downside. Is it really smart to ask reporters to stand potentially in harm’s way with the hopes you can convince viewers to do otherwise? Mark Strassman, a CBS news reporter who has been covering hurricanes for 25 years, believes the answer to that question is yes. His comment: “If they can see me standing out there getting knocked around, it’ll convince them that they should not do the same thing.”

Of course, we (mission mobilizers) have advocated for years that the Gospel is worth of all this and more. We often put our health in harm’s way when we leave the safety and security of our homeland. We contract Malaria (and lots more), we risk our children’s safety and health (and sometimes their very lives), and even the welfare of our spouses and our very selves (some have given their lives for the sake of the gospel). We would say, however, that doing something for heaven’s sake is a whole lot more worthwhile than for news reporting (even if it convinces viewers to shelter in place). What’s your take? If you’re willing to write anonymously by clicking “Comment” following the web version of this item, would you have a moment to recount the price you paid to take the gospel somewhere — and do you consider it “worth it?”
