Four weeks!
That’s how long we have left in this beautiful but far from home place where we have spent the past two years of our lives. I keep wondering what the week, the day, the moment we leave will be like, but we’ve never “gone home” like this before so I don’t quite know.
I do know we have lots of good-byes over the next month. Some teammates have just returned and we’ve barely had time to reconnect. Others are leaving and we’ve gotten close over the past two years. It will be sad to be more than a 10 minute walk apart. Still another family will return after we’re already gone.
Life is not all goodbyes right now, though. We still have work to get done! Here’s a sampling of what we’ve been up to:
* We helped find a house for our teammates the Thompsons when they transitioned back to Vanuatu last month. There aren’t many options so we looked at the twoavailable houses, sent them photos, and got the house ready that they picked. We are glad they’re back!
* Our family hosted our Area Director Kyle last week. He was visiting our team to give us some guidance and help us make some team decisions. The week was full of meetings and get togethers. It was great to spend time with Kyle and he’s the easiest house guest ever! 🙂
* All three kids finished school for last year, got a week off, and started the current year! We plan to do 5 weeks of school before we leave to head to the U.S. Once we get to Texas, the kids will take the week to get over jet lag, and then start back at their charter school.
* Today Matt and I both took part in a planning meeting for our VISTA program. Our next module starts in less than 2 weeks! This week is also the Church of Christ Conference Committee meeting which Matt will be attending and presenting at later this week. We’re also teaming up with four other families to have a garage sale at our house this Friday and Saturday.
* Matt is busy doing team finances, getting ready for the module, and starting to turn over his responsibilities to his “replacement” Dan Thompson. He also agreed to preach the DAY before we leave! I think he’s crazy, but I’ll be teaching Sunday School that day so I guess I can’t talk.
