Revenge, Sacrifice, and Jesus

There’s a long-held ritual among warring Pashtun tribes caught in cycles of revenge. It’s simple: each side offers up a young girl to the other tribe. And that girl endures the wrath her family deserves.

This all sounds familiar to us who are in Christ, doesn’t it? An innocent one was given for our sins. He had done no wrong whatsoever, yet someone had to be sacrificed in order to appease the One whom we had wronged.

Reflecting Jesus on the Job

One of my companies has both a very tough physical job and difficult employees to deal with. When I showed up for the first time to offer my chaplain services, the Hispanic employees said to me, “What are you doing here? We don’t want you here; we won’t talk to you.”

One day, after wandering around with the same result, I prayed, “Ok Lord, what do you want me to do here, because in my mind, I’m just wasting my time.”

Missionary Life Hacks

Everyone knows that living overseas comes with challenges, but one thing most people don’t think about is the difficulty of every day tasks, like cooking and cleaning, in a new country where you can’t always find the products you have at home.

To help our missionaries (and to give you a peek into their lives!) we put together some Missionary Life Hacks to make life a little less complicated.

Pray With Us

Pray for those working with people groups trapped in cycles of revenge. May the Spirit of God transform their thirst for vengeance into a quest for reconciliation.

Ask God to empower those who are seeking to reflect His glory in their workplaces. Pray for boldness and favor, so that conversations of grace may abound.

Praise God for those who are serving cross-culturally, despite the day-to-day difficulties.

Praising God for a Life Well-Lived
Jon BowersOn Saturday, May 13th, two colleagues and I traveled to the Cincinnati area to join the family of Jon Bowers to celebrate a life well-live for the Savior. Please say a special prayer of thanks that, even in his passing, Jon still went on to bless Team Expansion by arranging, in advance, that the family would ask all his friends and loved ones to send gifts to Team Expansion to the Jon Bowers Fund to benefit training and encouraging the reaching of unreached peoples.

To Jon, we dedicate the reading of this passage:

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:6-15)

So far, friends and loved ones have given over $3000 to the cause of reaching the unreached directly because of Jon and his family. Please join us in giving thanks.
