Glimmer from JOB
Dear Family and Friends,
This last month our Aruamu Old Testament translation checking team was slogging along through the book of Job, checking for accuracy and correcting mistakes. As you know, there are long sections of Job that are very negative and depressing. Job faces very difficult trials and is searching for answers from God, and his three “friends” offer him chapters and chapters full of entirely unhelpful advice.
In the midst of our working through Job, Aruamu translator Siria Ransford says, “I really like this man, Job. He says all sorts of things. He reminds me of me. I say things like this all the time. I say them in my mind. I don’t really tell people out loud. But I say them to myself. Job and I think alike. I really like this book.” Wow! Who knew? The thoughts of a man who lived around 6,000 years ago, and who struggled and recorded his struggles, could be translated in 2017 and could personally impact a seeker from Papua New Guinea. I never cease being amazed at the power of God’s Word.
Thank you so much for praying for us this last month. Steven and Siria and I, working in Dallas, have completed the exegetical check of Job. We sent a PDF to Madang, Papua New Guinea to be printed and carried out to the Aruamu village are for comprehension checking by the Aruamu checking teams there. We then began working on 2 Samuel, and are about half way through that book.
Also this last month, our PBT colleague Martha Wade, working with a team of 4 Aruamu people, completed the final consultant check on Isaiah 33-66. Also, John Igos completed the draft of 2 Chronicles and passed it on to Martin Ases and Pais Asefi for typing.
Nathan’s trips to Iowa to interview and observe the Deaf Mission Translation team working on the American Sign Language translation was very informative and helpful. Nathan is in North Carolina this week to meet with the Paratext team for process-planning meetings. My (Marsha’s) speaking trips to Washington and to Lousiana went quite well.
I also have deeply appreciated the prayers of many of you over the last months for my father, Charles King. He passed away peacefully on March 1. Our huge family and many friends gathered in Atlanta on March 10 for his Memorial Service to celebrate his long life and his faithfulness to the Lord. (Gifts may be made in memory of him at; https://pioneerbible.org/KingMemorial )
Steven Dazim, Siria Ransford and I have been asked by Pioneer Bible Translators to participate in the “Loving the Least Gala” in Northwest Arkansas on April 21, 7 p.m., at the John Q Hammons Convention Center, 3303 S Pinnable Hills Pkwy, Rogers, AR 72758. We would love to meet up with many of you there! We even have some space at our table. If you would like to join us, please sign up online: https://pioneerbible.org/events/nwaregistration
Love in Christ, Marsha Relyea Miles (for Nathan Miles, as well as Steven Dazim and Siria Ransford)
