Travelin’ Miles:  God is at work
February 2017

GOD IS AT WORK

Dear family and friends,

Nathan’s trip to Cuba was full of surprises and answers to prayer.  He was met at immigration by the head of the Cuban National Council of Churches, and walked with him right past all the immigration lines, through to the outer part of the airport.  Then, an immigration official waited with Nathan, while the NCC official went off in search of the other United Bible Societies colleagues who were arriving from other countries.  After they had all arrived a driver took them to Matanzas Evangelical Seminary, about 2 hours out of Havana, where they were to meet.

They spent a very productive week interacting about deaf sign language projects in different countries.  Nathan’s primary goal in coming was to listen carefully to the computer technology support that is needed by deaf translation teams so that appropriate software can be developed in order to accelerate this effort in many languages.

Nathan has been spending time over the last 2 months beginning to learn American Sign Language, so he made it a point to eat almost every meal with the deaf translators from the Cuban deaf translation team. Nathan was quite surprised to learn that thousands of house churches are meeting every week all around the island.  God is at work there.

In the meantime, in 2 locations, our Aruamu Translation Team is progressing on translation checking.  Martha Wade is working in Madang, Papua New Guinea with four Aruamu men to do the final consultant check on Isaiah 33-66.  Here in Dallas,  Steven Dazim, Siria Gari and I are working on the exegetical  check of Job.  We always start off our day spending time praying together.  Then we check to see if we have received messages from our teammates working in Madang with questions in Isaiah for us to have a look at. We send back our answers so that the Madang team can have them when they begin their work day a few hours later.  Then we dive into working on Job for the rest of the day.  Right now we are working in Job chapter 32.  God is at work in our team.

Thank you so much for your prayers this last month.

Love in Christ,
Marsha Miles

Prayer Prompts

Pray for Literature and Teaching Ministries (LATM), a wonderful sister organization which partners with many missionaries globally to help with publishing books in vernacular languages.  Marsha serves on the LATM Board of Directors, which will be meeting February 16.  Pray for God’s direction and vision.

Pray for Martha Wade, Martin, John, Jessy, and Michael as they work on the final consultant check of Isaiah 33-66 in Madang, PNG.

Pray for  Marsha, Siria, Steven as they work on the exegetical check of Job.  When Job is complete they are planning to move on to 2 Samuel.

Please continue to pray for Steven and Siria as they make friends and build relationships with new friends here in the US.  Pray for their families in Papua New Guinea, while they are here in the US over this 6 month period.

Pray for several trips coming soon:

March 1-2, Nathan will visit Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, IA to observe the American Sign Language Bible translation team as they work.  His goal is to better understand what computer software is needed for deaf project teams.

March 2-5, Marsha will be the main speaker at the Anacortes Christian Church Faith Promise weekend, in Washington state.

March 13,  Marsha will speak at the Perspectives Course in West Monroe, LA. (Steven and Siria will go with her, and be involved in this.)

The week of March 13, Nathan will participate with colleagues in a Machine Assisted Translation planning session.

The week of March 19,  Nathan will be in Waxhaw, NC for software team planning meetings.
