GOD IS AT WORK
Dear family and friends,
Nathan’s trip to Cuba was full of surprises and answers to prayer. He was met at immigration by the head of the Cuban National Council of Churches, and walked with him right past all the immigration lines, through to the outer part of the airport. Then, an immigration official waited with Nathan, while the NCC official went off in search of the other United Bible Societies colleagues who were arriving from other countries. After they had all arrived a driver took them to Matanzas Evangelical Seminary, about 2 hours out of Havana, where they were to meet.
They spent a very productive week interacting about deaf sign language projects in different countries. Nathan’s primary goal in coming was to listen carefully to the computer technology support that is needed by deaf translation teams so that appropriate software can be developed in order to accelerate this effort in many languages.
Nathan has been spending time over the last 2 months beginning to learn American Sign Language, so he made it a point to eat almost every meal with the deaf translators from the Cuban deaf translation team. Nathan was quite surprised to learn that thousands of house churches are meeting every week all around the island. God is at work there.
In the meantime, in 2 locations, our Aruamu Translation Team is progressing on translation checking. Martha Wade is working in Madang, Papua New Guinea with four Aruamu men to do the final consultant check on Isaiah 33-66. Here in Dallas, Steven Dazim, Siria Gari and I are working on the exegetical check of Job. We always start off our day spending time praying together. Then we check to see if we have received messages from our teammates working in Madang with questions in Isaiah for us to have a look at. We send back our answers so that the Madang team can have them when they begin their work day a few hours later. Then we dive into working on Job for the rest of the day. Right now we are working in Job chapter 32. God is at work in our team.
Thank you so much for your prayers this last month.
Love in Christ, Marsha Miles (for Nathan, Steven, and Siria)
