Haiti Relief

We at KORE want to extend our gratitude for all of your generous donations, prayers and support during this time.  With your help, our staff was able to go in and immediately implement efforts to assist those in our community.
It has been over a week since Hurricane Matthew ripped through the Southwestern coast of Haiti.  Reports from across the country indicate the death toll to be over a 1,000 with the cities of Les Cayes and Jeremie reaping the most devastation.
FOOD:  Food supply is one of the greatest needs right now.  Many of our farmers lost birds, crops and other supplies.  Last week our staff acquired 40 cases of food to distribute, for a total of 8,640 meals.  Food cases were delivered to some of our partner orphanages last week, with more deliveries scheduled as roads became accessible.
We continue to provide processed chicken to our 6.25 programs, with the addition of supplemental beans and rice purchased with your donations.  We will continue to meet this immediate need as funding is available.
STRUCTURAL DAMAGE: All sites visited so far have varying degrees of damage. Security walls and gates need repair, buildings sustained structural damage, flood waters have ruined flooring, clothing, mattresses and other possessions. Gardens are washed out and trees are down.
GOING FORWARD:     Many are concerned with the possibility of food shortages due to the loss of gardens and livestock.  Our team is working to get our farmers back in business to help meet the need in the coming months.  Repairs have already begun for many of the chicken coops in order to have production started in time for the Christmas market.  We will continue to support our staff, farmers, and their families as they work to rebuild.  New mattresses and other provisions will be purchased for a partner orphanage who lost a great deal from flood waters, and food will be purchased to supplement those in our 6.25 program. Additionally, we are supporting partner organizations who are fully engaged in relief efforts to the devasted areas throughout Southwestern Haiti.  Each day, we are faced with additional needs and challenges and we ask you to pray for our team in Haiti as they navigate thru the next couple of months.
We remain committed to our longterm focus to promote food secutiry, economic development and community health in Haiti.  We would not be able to do this without YOU!
Thank you, again, for all you do to support KORE.
