Bible Study Building Blocks
July 2016
Our mission is committed to church planting and development of strong congregations from a grass roots starting point. When we were planting the Kalibo Christian Church we used a variety of prayer methods and had many Bible Studies with the prospects we came across through the visitation of our ministry team and ourselves as the missionaries. This proved very effective but seemed to go out of focus as the church grew. One thing Carol and I noted was that a Bible Study point must be more than just a devotional lesson and short prayer time.
This is one reason we were delighted when Junior (our Bible College student from Kalibo) was given the chance to enter an intense mentoring program on Negros Island following his graduation in April. He is still there and the mentors running it have extended his time till the end of September as he is doing very well and will have a firm foundation in these evangelistic methods to use and mentor others.
In the Philippines most permanent structures are built with hollow concrete blocks. It the blocks are made strong the structure is better off. If they have cables through them for extra strength they are better still and will withstand most disasters that seem to come daily. These Bible study efforts that Junior is involved in are designed to build a strong nucleus of people who revolve around new contacts that the church has. As time goes by these groups become part of the church or the basis for new churches. Junior has been following through with a number of these that have taken people from the first stages of Bible Study to the time they become Christians and then help them to become active in the church. He has been supervised a lot but now does most of these on his own. Sometimes he will travel long distances to remote areas for these studies and other times they are near the town the church he is working at is located. From this type of effort the church planting work has gone from zero to over 200 in the worship services and he has been asked to do a lot of the preaching as well. It is hoped that he will use what he has learned to fulfill his desire to be an evangelist and teach others to do the same in this land where so many are without Jesus. If you would like to help with Junior’s expenses please send your gift to our forwarding agent. We thank those who have already helped him financially in this effort and thank all of you for your prayers. Please continue to pray for Him.
Also please pray for Rey and his wife Neneng in Kalibo. He is the preacher there and they are now expecting their first child. The church is building some new foundations in outreach through cell groups and hopes to expand these.
Please also pray for the Philippines. They have a new President now who is a hardliner and has some fairly drastic steps to cure the country of corruption and drugs. It will be a difficult time for many as he has taken on the powers that be and so there is unrest throughout the land.
Thank you again for your prayers, financial support, encouragement and Love.
