And Then There Were Five…

That’s right, EDCM now has five church plants in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic.  For several years now we have been mentoring two Haitian churches near our church plant in Higuey.  We have helped train their leaders and helped them form a good vision for their churches.  On Sunday night, April 10

th, the Anamuya Christian Church and the Otra Banda Christian Church officially became part of EDCM Ministries.  Praise God!  These congregations are Haitian churches offering services in Creole, the native tongue of Haitians.

Also on April 10

th

, we held a joint worship service where our five church plants came together to worship Jesus as One Body, One Church.  We gathered in the La Romana Church auditorium, which was packed from front to back, top to bottom, including the balcony which we have never used before.  It was an awesome night of worship as we communicated that in the Christian Church we are…

United

One body, one church

Equal
We are all children of God, no matter the skin color

Worshipers

We worship the head, Jesus Christ

We are the Body of Christ!

Short-term Mission Teams
Westside Christian Church
Springfield, IL

We were once again blessed to partner with a short-term team from Westside, led by the famous Gary Winkleman. Westside has been a long partner of the work in the Dominican Republic and it was a joy for us to be able to work together hand and hand here in the eastern part of the DR. The team arrived very prepared to teach English in our school, lead several VBS activities as well as help us tackle several much needed work projects. Thanks to everybody on the team and may God bless Westside Christian Church!

VandeLinde Furlough

Beginning in July 2016, the VandeLinde family will be taking a one year furlough. After being on the mission field full-time for 7 1/2 years, we have decided to take this time to return to the United States in order to accomplish the following goals:

Rest and Renewal
Reconnect
Report
Refocus

God has been very good to us and has blessed us tremendously here in the DR. We have worked very hard and the mission is really moving in the right direction. Therefore, we feel that this is a good time for us to take a furlough and after one year return to the DR re-energized, re-focused, and with a good clear vision for the future.

During our furlough, we will be living in Virginia, but plan to return to the DR several times during the year.  We also would love to visit your church to share what God has been doing through EDCM. Please contact me if you would like us to visit.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me personally.

Micah’s Minute

Tainos! Recently, I had the chance to dress up like a Taino Indian, the native indians of the Domincian Republic. Unfortunately, there are no more Taino Indians in the DR….or at least there weren’t…until now!

Look at us! We look like real Taino Indians!  I had a  fun weekend with my friends camping at Isla Saona and acting like we were Tainos.

Well, I love my sister, Analise. I think she is the prettiest girl in the world.   I love her so much. Sometimes my brother and I argue over who gets to sit next to her.  She is starting to talk a lot now but she still can’t say my name.  She calls me “Siah.” Since she calls me Siah, I call her “Ana”.

Here is a picture of us playing together at the new mall near our house and another picture of us at home.

PHYSICAL NEEDS

  • Two projectors to be used in our church plants
  • A wireless battery operated speaker that we can use for worship services where there is no electricity: about $350
  • Wireless microphones
  • Several laptops-new or used-that will be used to run powerpoint and easy worship during our worship services

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Connecta2: Youth Camp on July 1,2,3
  • The incorporation of two Haitian Churches
  • The transition of the new preachers in La Romana and Higuey
  • That God would continue to send workers to help us reach His goals here in the eastern part of the country

PRAISE GOD

  • God provided us with two new generators! One for La Romana and one for Higuey. Now we don’t have to worry about electricty during our worship services. Prasie God!
  • La Romana Church renewed their rental contract for 10 more years! This is a huge answer to prayers.

Thank you for your prayers! God listens and answers!
