Starvation in the Sudan
SOUTH SUDAN – 2.8 million people have been made homeless and tens of thousands currently face starvation. This week the president of South Sudan, Salva Kiir has reappointed Mr. Machar as Deputy President, this mean South Sudan can resume progress towards successful nationhood, however this situation is not great. Both the President and Vice President have incited harmful language towards each other.
The PEOPLE – 10,000 displaced people who recently fled their villages are the most vulnerable. Some are hiding on little islands that sit above the water level of the Sudd swamp. In this cut-off community, the UN’s food aid organization ( WFP) is feeding with air drops. These air drops were leaving daily from a location that Sandie and Tom have been ministering. Tom states “ I believe World Food Program may have stepped up the air drops in South Sudan or they have been defeated at times and have attempted return runs. c-130’s are running two times daily.”
Pray for a renewal of peace among the administration of South Sudan.
Pray that the efforts of Mercy Partners will increase during this time of need.
Pray for the disciples that we have just left in Uganda as their own country begins volatile elections.
