At Morning Glory, we know that the merit of a person cannot be judged by just one or two credentials. Our director, Lori Nij, insists that the leadership of the school choose “niñas” based on a number of criteria. Around the first week of September, every class elects girls to be considered by Lori to become “niñas.” Pre-Primary teachers work together to choose their court, but in Primary and Secondary School, Lori and other staff members evaluate each girls, many times through interviews and essays, to choose girls that have academic excellence, a good attitude, a history of healthy inter-personal relationships with their peers, and that demonstrate the Core Values of Morning Glory day in and day out. All the girls elected as “niñas” are chosen based on their values and achievements. The girl elected in 1st and 2nd grade is titled “Miss Monja Blanca” after the national flower of Guatemala. 3rd and 4th grades have Miss Escolar (scholastic). Miss Independence is the girl that is chosen in 5th and 6th grade. Secondary School chooses three representatives. Miss Independence is the girl chosen to represent Guatemala in our presentations, but Mister and Miss Morning Glory are the students with the highest grades, best conduct, and best representation of our Core Values. Of course, every “niña” elected is a very special student and we are proud of all of them but when you see Mister and Miss Morning Glory, you know that they are the example of what we want to accomplish in our students.
