Praises!  Thanks to God for his provision in the first few months of medical expenses for Lori. We thank God for the opportunity to continue ahead with the dream and vision of Morning Glory in spite of difficulties.

Prayers! Pray with us  for the faculty and staff of Morning Glory while our Director isn’t physically with us. Pray for unity in the teachers and students.  Pray that the funds come to complete the budget.  Pray for each student at Morning Glory and their protection and joy in the Lord.

The presenter announces the next band.  The fans in the stands go crazy. On the stadium floor, the musicians take their positions, looking directly at the directors.  Four whistles sound and the music begins to flow freely.  The result is overwhelming: Morning Glory marching Band is crowned Champions of the Primary School category in the national band competition held for the first time in Latin America by the Blue Devil Drum & Bugle Corps.
I still remember the year that I came to Morning Glory,  I came to this institution in a very difficult time in my life.  I had been unemployed for almost a year and I had financial problems that incremented daily. It wasn’t until June that Lori hired me.  There was little time before the most anticipated band presentation in Guatemala: the 15th of September, Independence Day in our country.  The school’s band only had some rhythm percussion instruments and a few Glockenspiels which we used for the melodies.  On the day of participation, the band came in last place.  And a lot of people made fun of [the institution] for the position we had.
So [we] got started with a lot of problems, yes.  But we also came wish a great desires to make music and have opportunities to accomplish something big.  Lori and I had a connection of ideas and dreams and that very motivating.  [Lori] made a big effort the next year to get more instruments and also hired my partner, Yoni Quiran, who has worked with the percussion since then.  So for the 15th of September of 2001, we won 1st place in the regional championship. From there, everything has been a story; story that is still being written with Morning Glory Marching Band  who were able, in just one year, to be one of the best bands in the region. We have compete in  the biggest spaces in the country, but above all, the best part has been realizing some of our dreams that we had at the beginning.  And not only that.  But we  also give our students the ability to have a musical instrument in their hands and discover the potential each one of them has.
The movement of bands has grown enormously in Guatemala and today, schools and institutions invest great quantities of money in instruments.  We have received the support of some of our good-hearted American friends, wind instruments and little by little, we are implementing  teaching the kids to use these music instruments.  Some of them are in good condition and a few aren’t but we do what we need to make them make sounds. However, in spite of all this, we still don’t have a tuba line so needed in a band like ours. We also want to reinforce our drum line with adequate instruments for the best band possible.  We keep praying and asking God that we can one day have at lest five tubas and a complete drum line. That would be great and I still believe that it is possible.
If you ask me what I hope for in the band’s future, I think I would say that [I’d like to see us] go to foreign places to represent our country with a high level of musicality and talent that our kids have, even though they are from villages with scarce resources. Besides that, I’d like to have a tour to visit our friends and churches in the US that have helped us without knowing us.  In this manner we could tell them that their investment that they made in our school wasn’t in vain.  But sooner, I think I would be ok with having a line of five tubas.

PS Today Professor William is stable and, just like the band has established itself, William is ready to establish himself in marriage very soon.
