  Prayer Pointes – July 2015

NorthPointe Christian Church

Please pray for Sandy. Sandy just started attending NorthPointe in June. She recently moved to Rhode Island after a job transfer from New Orleans and thought this change in her life might be a good time to explore faith again. Please pray for Sandy as she finds her way back to God and that NorthPointe will be a place for her to grow in her faith and get plugged into a community that loves and cares for her.

Please pray for Sue and her husband, Roland. Sue and Roland recently started attending NorthPointe after being invited by a friend. They have a lot of questions about faith, but are both open to learning more about Jesus and what the Bible has to say. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to open up their hearts and move in their lives and that Sue and Roland will trust in Jesus for their salvation.

Please pray for Sue (a different Sue). Sue has a friend that attends NorthPointe and brought her to us as a potential Dollar Club Ministry candidate. Over the past month, we’ve been looking for ways to come alongside of Sue and her family through our benevolence ministry and this has given us an incredible opportunity to minister to her emotionally as well. Sue’s friend, Monique, has been inviting her to church for close to a year and last weekend she came for the very first time because she was overwhelmed that a church that she’s never attended would be willing to help her during a financially difficult time in her life. I’ve prayed with Sue over the phone a few times, but had the chance to pray with her in person the Sunday she attended. Afterwards, she was crying and said she’s never felt this much love and acceptance before. Please pray that God will open Sue’s heart and she will start following Jesus!

We are gearing up to kick off some exciting “Equip Training Sessions” on the first week of August. These will cover how to read the Bible, an overview of the story of Scripture, living out the Gospel in your workplace, living out the Gospel in the community, the basics of prayer, and reading the Bible as a family. Pray for our leadership team that we can effectively help God’s people to grow.

Praise God for Celebrate Recovery, it is off to an amazing start. We have had between 35-48 people every week! But with that number of people comes the struggle for space. We will soon be needing a new location.

Pray for the student summer trips. We have 16 students going to CIY and a Middle School Retreat!

Praise God that he answers prayers. We saw 21 people express their commitment to Jesus through baptism on June 14. Included in that was Owen and three of his children. God is doing amazing things in Owen, as he is overcoming years of addiction, to make Jesus the center of his life and family. Please pray for continued strength from the Holy Spirit.

Please celebrate with and pray for Susette and Ishmael. They have been together since 2002 and are responding to the Spirit’s conviction that they need to be married. They want to get married right away to start honoring God in their relationship. Please pray for them as they prepare for their wedding on 8/1. Pray for this couple to continue to surrender more to Jesus.

Victor has been moving toward Jesus for about a year. He has taken big steps and is ready to give his life to Jesus. Please pray that he will have the courage to commit to Jesus and be baptized.

BridgePointe’s Back to School Fair is on August 14. This event will provide free school supplies, backpacks, haircuts and more to hundreds of families in East Providence. Please pray that people are moved by this demonstration of kindness in the name of Jesus and choose to explore a relationship with Him through the church.

We are excited to welcome Brady and Emily Gerdts’ son into the world this week! He was due on July 11th and has been taking his sweet time in showing up. Please be praying for the Gerdts family as they prepare for his arrival!

Please be praying for George and Stacy. We met them soon after George broke his back last spring, and it’s been a very slow healing process for him. They have three children, aged 4 and younger, with one more on the way. As they await orders from the Navy following George’s recovery, please pray for strength, direction, and continued healing in their lives.

Please join our team in praying for the changes in our OceanPointe community with so many military families coming and going. We’ve had to say goodbye to about 50 people in the past couple months, but we’ve met many new families since then. Please be praying that OceanPointe would be the place (and people) they can call “home” during their time here.

Also, we ask for your continued intercession on behalf of our 24/7 space next-door to the movie theater. We’ve had several delays in the past few months, so we continue to pray for God’s favor and direction during the wait.
