Summer internship ends!
June 8, 2015
The Philippine summer is almost over. It has been a long and a hot summer and now some of the monsoon rains have come. The rain is good but the humidity and moisture it generates is hard to handle as it goes right through you. Still the work goes on and people seem adjusted to the fact that the days will eventually get cooler.
Junior, our Bible College student from Kalibo studying in Cebu is just completing a 12 week internship in Negros Island. He was assigned a small church and found it a real blessing. This church had lost all their youth and some key membership and he was able to start the youth program back as well as reach out to many new people. He started a Basketball ministry and the young people around the church built a native style basketball court on the some land loaned them from a neighbor. Since there was not much to do in the fields and school was out the local teens came in good numbers and many started coming to church as well. Their youth group grew in numbers and interest. He held a Bible Study for them at basketball practice along with some other Bible studies through the week and did much of the preaching. He said he learned a lot and it was a good experience being in another cultural region although the native tongue was the same as it is here in Iloilo.
Junior assisted in planning the Vacation Bible School and special Church Anniversary celebrations. These were well attended and several souls have been baptized into Christ with more hopefully to come in the future. A native senior preacher supervised him and so he was able to learn some new skills and put into practice other skills he had learned in college. He also had a group learning Tai kwon do which he is able to teach and was able to witness a lot to people on a one on one basis.
He will drop by here on his way back to Cebu for a few days and also have a chance to talk with Darryl firsthand about his experiences and challenges. This is his final year at Bible College and we pray that God will use him greatly in the years to come.
Noemi has also been very busy with speaking at special Ladies meetings and groups. She is in demand because she has a good knowledge of the Bible and its application to the problems women face. She was able to go to a number of isolated churches and at some of these several clusters of churches gathered as well. This type of hands on teaching and interaction is needed very much here in the Philippines.
Darryl has been busy with speaking at some special programs and also looking out for some major outreach challenges that are coming up. We have not done much on our feeding outreach because of lack of funds and the massive growth in numbers that were coming to these outreaches.
A very busy time is ahead for us and we ask that you will keep us in your prayers and we thank you for your continue financial support, encouragement and prayers. It means a lot to us!
