Junior’s Journeys
May 2, 2015
In June Junior (Jay R) Narvarates, our Bible College student from Kalibo will begin his fourth and final year at the Central Philippines Bible College in Cebu. As part of this preparation for Christian Ministry and Evangelism he has to serve 12 weeks before the beginning of his final year as an intern in a pioneer church planting experience. He has been able to secure a place on Negros Island under the supervision of an experienced native evangelist. He has done some internship with us and in Kalibo but this one will be a real proving ground since he will have to work in unknown territory on another island other than ours.
Junior has been located in an area outside the major city called Bago. He came to us before he went to Negros but was delayed by the mass of people travelling over Easter to and from that island. He had to wait three days for a boat and so arrived late on Easter Saturday. He gave his first sermon at sunrise on Easter Sunday and then began working with the church. He has been provided with a place to live and food to eat and has to work in the house a couple of days as week to help with the expenses since the church is very small. He is full of energy and so is able to handle the programs he is now responsible for. These programs include Bible Studies, preaching, visiting other works under supervision of the native evangelist, youth development as there was no youth group and also visitation and evangelism. He has already seen one soul come to the Lord and others will follow if we pray for God’s leading and blessing.
Junior also has started a Basketball ministry since kids all over the Philippines love basketball. In Cebu he had over 80 young people attending this outreach that was held with the help of some faculty and students at CPBC. He is currently clearing some land they are being loaned to put up a small dirt based basketball court. This will prove a popular outreach and he holds a Bible Study and prayer time for those boys who come. The church is starting to grow stronger spiritually as well as numerically and we hope you will pray for Junior and his summer journey outreach. He also has to live on faith as the college or church he interns with provides little financial help.
At present very few men will be graduating into full-time ministry in our colleges in the Philippines. This number has decreased over the years as many students wish to study secularly after Bible College. We hope to use Junior with Pacific Rim Ministries as we seek to plant a pioneer church in the region we are living in and the timing of the completion of the building project of the 1,400 Typhoon relocation houses near us will coincide with the time Junior completes his degree in Bachelor of Theology and Evangelism. He will help us in the meantime lay a foundation for a future church and the new villages will be ready for occupation in about a years’ time.
Please continue to pray for Junior and his journey to evangelize, learn, grow and apply a walk by faith, as he prepares to serve Jesus in the days to come!
If you would like to help with Junior’s expenses for his journey please send your gift to our forwarding agent. It will be a blessing to him.
