Prayer prompts

Famine Relief Update: Praise God for the generosity of His people, in meeting the needs of the Aruamu people affected by the famine which resulted from an extensive drought over the last year.  The first loads of famine relief rice have been delivered in the villages.  A second wave of rice loads are currently being orchestrated, in partnership with Beyond Baptism, and with Aruamu community leaders. (We anticipate that by early July Aruamu new gardens will be harvestable, assuming the rains continue falling over the next weeks. Please pray with us for that)

Pray for Nathan’s Paratext Software team, as they finish the Beta version of Paratext 8.0, hopefully to be released in June.

Pray for Robin, Pais, and Marsha, as we work on exegetically checking Lamentations, Michah, and Zephaniah.

Pray for village checkers in PNG, as they work on comprehension checking Judges.

Pray for Sue Ellen Wrenn, as she types Hosea.

Pray for Simon Aroro, as he types the first half of Numbers.

Pray that God will help us as we search for clean water solutions for the Aruamu area.
“I Will Rejoice”
Dear family and friends,
 
Thank you so much for you prayers, encouragement and support this last month. Our Old Testament Translation team is making steady progress. Here is a synopsis of our focus this month:
 
  • Our exegetical checking team working here in Dallas completed checking on 1 Samuel, Nahum, and Habakkuk.    
  • PBT consultants Martha Wade and Gregory Ohrenberg completed the final consultant check on Isaiah 1-31, working with a team of 4 Aruamus in the town of Madang. 
  •  In Madang, David Berama has completed the rough draft of Numbers, and  Siria Ransford completed drafting the final 3 chapters of Leviticus. 
  • Martin Ases completed spell checking Jeremiah.
  • Steven Dazim completed the Exegesis training course in the Highlands of PNG.
  • Sue Ellen Wrenn completed typing Deuteronomy.
 
As Robin Namai, Pais Asefi, and I were working on the book of Habakkuk, we could not help but be impacted by Habakkuk’s words:
 
 
Though the fig tree does not bud
    and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
    and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
    and no cattle in the stalls,

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
    I will be joyful in God my Savior.
HABAKKUK 3:17-18

 
You will recall that the Aruamu area of Papua New Guinea is being deeply affected by a drought.  This last year the trees have not been budding, nor the gardens producing food.  Robin and Pais, and  the folks in the entire language area can identify with Habakkuk’s stress, and with his encouragement here! 

Even in the midst of really hard things, it is very important to “rejoice in God” our Savior.  What a breath of fresh air!
