Dear Reggie,
Four weeks!

That’s how long we have left in this beautiful but far from home place where we have spent the past two years of our lives. I keep wondering what the week, the day, the moment we leave will be like, but we’ve never “gone home” like this before so I don’t quite know.

I do know we have lots of good-byes over the next month. Some teammates have just returned and we’ve barely had time to reconnect. Others are leaving and we’ve gotten close over the past two years. It will be sad to be more than a 10 minute walk apart. Still another family will return after we’re already gone.

Life is not all goodbyes right now, though. We still have work to get done! Here’s a sampling of what we’ve been up to:

* We helped find a house for our teammates the Thompsons when they transitioned back to Vanuatu last month. There aren’t many options so we looked at the twoavailable houses, sent them photos, and got the house ready that they picked. We are glad they’re back!

* Our family hosted our Area Director Kyle last week. He was visiting our team to give us some guidance and help us make some team decisions. The week was full of meetings and get togethers. It was great to spend time with Kyle and he’s the easiest house guest ever! 🙂

* All three kids finished school for last year, got a week off, and started the current year! We plan to do 5 weeks of school before we leave to head to the U.S. Once we get to Texas, the kids will take the week to get over jet lag, and then start back at their charter school.

* Today Matt and I both took part in a planning meeting for our VISTA program. Our next module starts in less than 2 weeks! This week is also the Church of Christ Conference Committee meeting which Matt will be attending and presenting at later this week. We’re also teaming up with four other families to have a garage sale at our house this Friday and Saturday.

* Matt is busy doing team finances, getting ready for the module, and starting to turn over his responsibilities to his “replacement” Dan Thompson. He also agreed to preach the DAY before we leave! I think he’s crazy, but I’ll be teaching Sunday School that day so I guess I can’t talk.

Below are a few small glimpses into our life in August…

Angie (for Matt and the kids, too)

Clockwise:

~ A girl from my Sunday School class did Lauren’s hair one morning after class.

~ Ever wonder what “party food” is for kids here? Tiny pancakes with a thin layer of jelly, popcorn, papaya, LOTS of cake, lollies, small jello cups, peanuts, and cordial (like kool aid). We were celebrating all the verses the kids have memorized.

~ The first trunk of items we’re packing up to leave here. My idea is to take a picture of each trunk and hold up fingers to indicate which number I’ve assigned it. I know that I won’t remember what we’ve left here and what we got rid of, so I needed a system!

~ We celebrated Aidan’s 15th birthday! He got some of his favorites – apple juice, vanilla ice cream, and his sister made him a cake. I know he looks really excited here, but he actually did have a good day.

Your Questions!
Eileen asks, Do you have a place to live when you get here? What will be your greatest need coming back?

Yes, we have been renting our house in Grand Prairie, Texas, while we have been in Vanuatu. We will move back into it as soon as we get back. It’s definitely nice to not have to look for a place to live with everything else going on right now!

I think our needs in returning fall into two areas: physical and emotional.

Physical needs include a car, couch, mattresses, and lots of small items for our house (that weren’t in good enough shape to store!). If you live in our area, we have a list of items we’re looking for. You can e-mail me atangie.weldy@pbti.org and I can send you the list.

Emotional needs are harder to pinpoint. We’ve heard from other missionaries to look for people who really want to hear about our lives. Lots of people will want to hear a short story in passing or that we’re doing good – and that’s great! – but it will be harder to find those who want to get a coffee and really share together about the last two years. We could also use a lot of extra grace! Some of us are pre-grievers (me!) which basically means we are having a hard time right now. Others in our family are post-grievers so they will have a harder time when we get back to Texas. So if we seem “off”, maybe just give us a hug…or a cookie.

You all are a blessing to us! Thank you for standing with us as we work toward the day when everyone has a Bible in their own language!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Five individuals/families have given “Welcome Home” gifts.
Thank you!
You can also help our family transition well back to the States by giving a special gift. Our family will incur at least $13,000 in expenses over the next 2 months (5 plane tickets – $5,800…1 vehicle – $5-7,000…partially refurnishing our house in Texas – $2,000). If you would like to give toward these one-time expenses, please go to our giving page.
Thank you for welcoming us home!
Prayer Points
~ We are each processing the upcoming transition differently. You might think we would all be overjoyed to go “home” but this is home now, too. Please pray that we can each process our thoughts and feelings in a healthy way and give each other extra grace along the way.
~ Team Vanuatu has a lot of changes coming up. We are all making some sort of transition over the next few months. We are also trying to make plans for how Matt can be an effective Team Leader from Texas and how he can share some finance responsibilities with teammates in country. Please ask the Father to give us wisdom in decision making and an abiding love for one another even when we are on different continents.
