A No-Nonsense Call to Missions
By Doug Lucas
Today, I heard David Platt in person for speak 3 times. You’ll recall that David Platt is author of the little book with the big message, Radical. Platt’s first message of the day bowled me over. He spoke from 1 Cor. 15 and the main theme was, “Hey, you’re going to die anyway. Why not give your life for something that matters. Why not die in the mission field.” Honestly, by the time he was done, I was ready to sign up to become a missionary. Never mind that I’d spent the last 38 years of my life serving as one. His words were so compelling and the message was so obvious. He opened with these words: “It’s obvious that not all of you will decide to move cross-culturally to share the Good News with unreached people and places. What I can’t figure out is, with 2.8 billion people still outside the reach of anyone able to share the Good News with them, what’s holding you back?”
Indeed — why not? Almost every day at Emerald Hills, we talk with people of all ages about mission opportunities. Our mobilizers cast the vision for making a difference worldwide. Our trainers prepare would-be messengers for the works of service that God has called them to do. And our field coordinators coach on-field workers for maximum impact. I honestly believe that 90% of all church members would move overseas as missionaries or business people for Christian causes — if someone would just help them get started.
That’s why we’re so grateful that you’re helping make Emerald Hills a reality. By helping us make things happen at Emerald Hills, we’re in turn able to help THEM make something happen in dozens of lands around the world. Thank you for your partnership — and, as David Platt said today, May God speed the coming of His Kingdom to the nations. |
