As you may have heard, Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4 hurricane, will soon pass near Haiti and Cuba. We know that many of you have a sponsored child, a church, or friends there that you deeply care about. You are invested in the people of Haiti and Cuba, and we humbly ask for your prayers:
Haiti & Cuba
Pray that whatever happens, we will glorify God and point people to Christ.
Pray that our communications remain functional – internet and phone capabilities – so that we can keep you informed of the needs of the people. We anticipate some type of relief work to be necessary, which we will share as we know more.
Haiti
Pray for wisdom and discernment for the Lifeline staff: those leading the mission team and our Haitian leadership team. They are meeting to pray, asses our needs and resources, and also prepare our relief ministries. Gretchen, our co-Founder and Advancement Officer who was also in Haiti during the 2010 earthquake, and Keith, our Vice President of Missionary Development, are at our Grand Goave campus in Haiti.
Pray for the Haitian people. Pray for the Haitians who live in unsafe homes that cannot withstand this type of storm. While hundreds of cement block homes have been built over the years, there are many, many more families who are waiting for a secure, safe home. (The mission team who is here now has been involved with constructing eight homes.) Pray for our churches and their leaders, as they respond to the needs of the families in their communities.
Pray also for our outpost churches and schools; we anticipate that many of our remote locations will suffer loss.
Pray for the mission team, who have been serving the people in Haiti and are now preparing for the upcoming storm. Pray that team members would sense God’s peace. Pray for their families at home, whom we are communicating with. The team has a great attitude and have exhibited servants hearts in all that they’ve done!
Pray for our facilities, which held strong during the earthquake 2010. We are “battening down the hatches” as we anticipate the storm. Our Grand Goave campus may also welcome the Samaritan’s Purse team, who stay at our facilities in such situations.
Cuba
Our Cuban leaders shared that the hurricane is heading towards the cities of Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa, where there are some of our house churches. Pray for the safety of the people, as they prepare and endure the storm. Also pray for the house churches to be a beacon of light to their communities. Eduardo, who oversees the ministry in Cuba, shares, “Thank you for your prayers and support.”
Please persistently pray for the children, families, staff, and ministries in Haiti and Cuba. We thank you for bringing these requests to our ever-faithful God, as entrust Him with those we love. We will keep you updated!
On our knees together,
The Lifeline Family
